For the uninformed, the leading professional society of medical transcriptionists called the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI), offers two types of credentials:

1. Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT)

2. Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT)

In this article, we will focus on the former (RMT) credential, but before we move any further into what and why’s of it, it’s important to understand why credentialing is important.

The AHDI lists several reasons why aspirants to the medical transcription profession should consider getting certified even though it is not a prerequisite for the job.

First, the job of a medical transcriptionist is highly interpretive in nature in that they have to understand complex medical language, clinical and diagnostic processes, as well as therapeutic care provided to patients and then put them into the right context based on doctor dictations.

Certification is one way to ensure that the candidates meet the quality benchmark for the job can be entrusted to perform it accurately.

Also, according to AHDI, the healthcare sector attaches a lot of value to degrees, credentials and professional designations and more and more employers are demonstrating a preference to hiring credentialed medical transcriptionists. In fact, many employers provide support to candidates preparing for the CMT/RMT exam and also offer reimbursement of the exam fee.

What does RMT certification involve?

The Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) certification is meant for MTs who:

· Have recently graduated from a medical transcriptionist program

· Have less than two years of experience in acute care

· Work in a single specialty healthcare environment

If you meet all the above criteria, you are eligible to take the RMT exam, which assesses a candidate’s core knowledge and skills needed for practicing medical transcription. AHDI recommends that candidates review the RTM exam blueprint to assess their preparedness for the exam before taking it.

Those who successfully clear the credentialing exam are given the title of RMT, which is valid for three years. To renew their credential, candidates must pass an exam or complete AHDI’s re-credentialing course for RMTs.

How to prepare for the RMT exam?

Ideally, the educational or training program you go through should provide you the core competencies and skills needed to clear the RMT exam. You can also download RMT exam sample questions from the AHDI website in addition to the exam blueprint.

Additionally, you can check to see whether your school offers RMT exam prep tuition. A structured program that guides you through the credentialing process and prepares you for the exam will provide just the right foundation for taking and clearing the RMT test.

Once you are credentialed, you will find it easier to access medical transcription opportunities as compared to non-certified rivals. You will also find that employers are that much more willing to offer you the flexibility to work from home; move you up the corporate ladder; and compensate you handsomely in recognition of the expertise you bring in as a credentialed professional.

What’s life like for an RMT?

As an RMT, you will likely be working in hospitals, offices of physicians or companies that provide transcription services to clients.

Many medical transcriptionists are also self-employed and work from a home office, which makes this profession especially desirable for certain demographic profiles such as stay at home moms, people with physical disabilities, retired folk, full time students, etc.

Depending on your profile, you will spend most of your day listening to taped doctor dictations and converting them into written reports or reviewing and editing drafts of reports prepared by technologies such as speech recognition software.

© nancyhiggins for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: certified medical transcriptionist, registered medical transcriptionist, RMT Exam

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

How to Find Suitable Sales Staff

Dylan Pugh

Careers Employment

advertising sales jobs

filling sales jobs

finding sales candidates

finding sales staff

listing sales jobs

Sales candidates

sales recruitment

Sales staff

With the level of unemployment at a 17-year high and the recession meaning that many who are employed are looking for better jobs, there are often hundreds of candidates for each sales job advertised. You might be dreading the prospect of rifling through a stack of CVs or application forms, but you can use this to your advantage and ensure you choose the perfect sales candidates. To do this you will need to ensure that your job advertisement is accurate, attractive and well-targeted. The main place where sales candidates look is online, and this is where you should focus your sales recruitment process.Target the best sales candidatesRather than listing your job on a generic jobs website, why not target your specific audience on a sales recruitment website? The visitors to websites focusing on sales jobs will be specifically looking for a position in a business like yours. Your responses won’t be from people who are applying for hundreds of jobs in the hope that someone takes them on, but from driven sales candidates with either a specific background or a specific interest and skills in your field of work. If you are looking for sales staff professionals you are far more likely to find them on a sales recruitment website, and this is where your search should be focussed.Writing the advertisementWriting a good online job ad is much more than filling in a form; this is a critical part of the sales recruitment process. It is obvious, but sales candidates are going to be more attracted if you include all the attractive parts of the role which you are offering. To write a successful advert for sales staff ensure that your advert includes your company name, a search engine friendly job title without abbreviations and remember that advertisements with personality will stay at the front of sales candidates’ minds for longer. Define how your sales staff will carry out their duties; whether they are over the phone or in person. Include a salary (and OTEs if applicable) and any other benefits, and describe your perfect member of sales staff to reduce the number of unsuitable applicants. Be as detailed as possible; any doubt in the minds of your potential sales candidates is likely to prevent them applying.Consider a sales recruitment agencyIf you really do not have the time or patience to sift through a stack of application forms or CVs consider handing over this inconvenience to a specialist sales recruitment agency. They will be experienced at finding successful sales candidates with little effort on your part.

© Dylan Pugh for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: advertising sales jobs, filling sales jobs, finding sales candidates, finding sales staff, listing sales jobs, Sales candidates, sales recruitment, Sales staff

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

Best at-Home Careers for Moms

Nancy Higgins

Careers

Careers Employment

medical billing and coding training

medical transcription

medical transcription training

They say that a child gives birth to a mother. It’s also said that parenthood is the loveliest, most fulfilling experience of a person’s life. What they don’t tell you is that becoming a parent, as precious as it is, also gives rise to a series of difficult decisions.

The first reality check, especially for new moms, comes when they have to decide whether or not they want to get back to work.

While some are lucky enough to have the option of taking a break, others, who don’t have the financial backing to quit their jobs are left with no alternative but to leave their little bundle behind no matter how heartbreaking the process.

And then there are women, for whom their work is what defines them and having a baby doesn’t mean they have to put a brake on their careers.

Whichever category of women you belong to, you will probably feel good to know that it’s possible to enjoy the joys of motherhood and perks of a professional life at the same time. Before you roll your eyes in exasperation, let us tell you we are not talking about the so called online “work from home” jobs that reek of scam, but actual, genuine careers that can be pursued at home.

Here are a couple of jobs that you can consider if you are a new mom in search of legitimate work-from-home opportunities:

Medical Transcription

First, the good news. The increase in the number of elderly folk in the country needing medical help has spurred the demand for all types of healthcare professionals including medical transcriptionists. Now for the not so good news. Most medical transcription companies prefer hiring professionals with prior experience and/or formal training in the field.

But getting medical transcriptionist training is not at all difficult these days. In fact, dare we say that quality medical transcriptionist training programs are available literally at the click of a mouse? You can choose an online vocational training course or go to community college for a distance learning degree in medical transcription.

The work is also pretty complex and involves transcribing doctor dictations into written text. This means you should not only be able to understand the medical jargon they use, but also interpret it correctly. And don’t expect the doctors to make it easy for you by enunciating each and every word. Just consider yourself lucky if they don’t talk at a breakneck speed or chew gum while dictating!

Compensation for medical transcriptionist is a factor of their experience, certification, location, employer, etc. On an average, medical transcription can bring in $9.91 – $19.28 per hour for you.*

Medical Coding & Billing

You may not find too many medical billing and coding specialists working from home, but it’s not impossible to find telecommuting opportunities in this growing health information field.

Medical coders are responsible for assigning standardized codes to diagnostic and other clinical procedures that occur in a healthcare facility for insurance purposes. These documents then pass into the hands of medical billers, who use them for billing the healthcare insurance providers of patients.

The knowledge of standard clinical classification and coding systems is necessary to perform this job in addition to understanding medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, healthcare reimbursement system, etc. It’s a good idea to complete medical coding and billing training from a career school or college before you start looking for home-based opportunities.

As a medical coding specialist, you make an average of $10.37 – $22.10 per hour.** On the other hand, medical billers charge an average hourly rate of $10.44 – $18.70.***

Sources:

*payscale.com/research/US/Job=Medical_Transcriptionist/Hourly_Rate

**payscale.com/research/US/Job=Medical_Records_Coder/Hourly_Rate

***payscale.com/research/US/Job=Medical_Billing_Specialist/Hourly_Rate

© nancyhiggins for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: medical billing and coding training, medical transcription, medical transcription training

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

Filling An Investment Sales Job Vacancy

Dylan Pugh

Careers Employment

carbon trading

investment sales

Investment sales is a growing industry. As more and more people turn away from standard bank accounts that offer poor and very low interest rates in general, people are beginning to turn to alternative investments and different ways of getting their money to work for them.

This has led to a surge in investment sales jobs who require telesales staff to pitch their products and services to potential investors and to manage their accounts on the behalf.

If you are looking for a job in investment sales, such as in the carbon trading industry, then you may struggle initially to find these sorts of job listings. This is because it is a specialised area of recruitment and therefore many standard recruitment agencies will often turn down the management of these types of vacancies due a lack of knowledge and expertise in the area. Therefore, if you are looking to work in investment sales or carbon trading, your best bet is to find a specialist that specifically deals with this type of recruitment. This means that not only will you find plenty of jobs to choose from, but you will also be able to speak to somebody who understands the industries and needs and be able to offer you support and advice that is relevant to the job and ultimately helps you get the position.

Likewise, if you are already within the investment sales industry and looking to recruit then by far the best way to do so is to use an investment sales recruitment specialist. Standard recruitment agencies will often not have the right calibre of people on their books and may struggle to fill your role with somebody who has the right experience. By using a specialist, you will be tapping into someone who already has a large base of experienced investment sales people who know what is expected of them, have the relevant training and will be able to slot straight into your organisation, therefore saving time and money and ultimately getting you someone who drives your business forward.

Using an investment sales recruitment company, whether it be to fill a role, or to find a role, is often very simple. Just a quick phone call to the company or a search online for their current jobs and services will allow you to get the ball rolling. Once you have registered your interest with them, they will then get to work in either finding you the perfect job role, or indeed filling your vacancy with the perfect candidate.

© Dylan Pugh for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: carbon trading, investment sales

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

What is Virtual Assisting?

Nancy Higgins

Careers

Careers Employment

administrative assistant course

administrative assistant training online

Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants, also known as VAs, are among the fastest growing home-based professionals. Contrary to popular belief, virtual assisting is a highly skilled job and involves providing administrative, clerical, secretarial and other types of specialized support to businesses, executives, entrepreneurs and anyone else who might need their services.

The job is pretty much the same as that of an onsite office assistant with the only difference being that these professionals provide their services from a remote location, which for most of them is their home. Consequently, it is an ideal career for individuals looking for home-based work such as:

· Parents who want to stay at home with their kids

· Students looking to pay their way through college

· Senior folk who want to start a new post-retirement career

· People with physical disabilities that limit their onsite work options

· Professionals who need a second career to generate an additional income

One of the reasons for the huge popularity of home-based virtual assisting business is its relatively low start-up cost. All one needs in the name of equipment to start off are a laptop or desktop computer, a facsimile machine, a scanner, a printer, a photocopier, a telephone, and a high-speed Internet connection.

Thanks to the information age that we live in, most people already have at least half the things on that list and acquiring the rest is a breeze courtesy online auction sites like eBay.com if you don’t want to spend too much money on buying new equipment.

Compared to the low start-up cost, the monetary perks could be quite attractive especially for VAs who have completed some kind of postsecondary administrative assistant course or possess a professional certification.

Virtual Assistant – The Job

As mentioned earlier, a virtual assistant can provide a multitude of services to clients ranging from general office management and administrative support to specialized services like technical or creative assistance.

While most VAs tailor their services to suit the needs of their clients, but their day-to-day duties on a broad level may include:

1. Scheduling appointments.

2. Making travel arrangements.

3. Maintaining electronic files.

4. Managing online databases.

5. Setting agendas for meetings.

6. Managing corporate website.

7. Managing email correspondence.

8. Preparing reports and presentations.

9. Conducting online research.

10. Performing billing related procedures.

11. Bookkeeping and basic accounting services.

12. Promoting business using social media tools.

13. Writing and distributing blogs, newsletters, flyers, etc.

14. Doing data entry and proofing & editing documents.

15. Ordering equipment and supplies online.

Many others tasks that may seem routine and mundane, but are an essential part of running a successful business, can be added to this list. Wear comfortable, office wear and shoes. Arrive early for the scheduled interview. Getting caught in traffic or not knowing your way to the office just show bad planning.

Be polite, shake hands firmly and look everyone in the eye when you are speaking to the panel. Make sure that you remember each one of your panelists’ names and know how to pronounce them. Not doing this part right just shows carelessness in your manner.

Give Real Examples

When talking about your skills, whether they are programming skills, marketing abilities, team work or leadership skills, always try and use real examples to highlight them. This will enable your interviewers to better relate to what you are saying and will also give them a clearer picture of you as an employee or a student.

Even if you are faced with hypothetical questions, try and quantify them so that you can show your panelists that you understand the question and the situation that they have described.

Don’t Ramble and Don’t Rush

Many interviewees tend to get nervous and show this nervousness by rambling or rushing through questions. Think carefully about what you want your answer to say about you and put it across to the interviewers in a methodical, yet succinct manner.

Answer to the point and keep your rambling in check. The interviewers do not want to know about every single aspect of your life. Also, most people tend to get more negative about a situation when they ramble. Your panelists want to see you as a positive individual who’d be an asset to their organization.

For more tips on interviewing skills, investment banking interview, visit www.interviewbay.com

© joydz for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: investment banking interview

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

Inpatient VS Outpatient Medical Coding

Nancy Higgins

Careers

Careers Employment

medical billing and coding training

medical billing training

medical coding training

Medical coding professionals form an important link between healthcare practitioners and health insurance carriers like Medicaid and Medicare. Part of the health information management team in a healthcare establishment, medical coders assign standardized codes to the diagnoses, treatments and other clinical procedures being performed there.

These codified documents then pass into the hands of medical billing professionals who use them to bill health insurance companies, government, or patients directly.

Thus, if it were not for these professionals soldiering on, healthcare practitioners would not be getting reimbursed for their services, at least not as efficiently and smoothly as they are now.

Inpatient VS Outpatient Coding

The field of medical coding offers two broad career paths that aspirants can pursue – outpatient coding and inpatient coding. There are some differences in not just the training required for the two career paths, but also in the job itself. Here’s some more information on inpatient vs. outpatient coding:

Outpatient medical coding: As the name suggests, outpatient coding involves coding the medical charts of patients who are discharged from a healthcare facility within 24 hours. So, outpatient medical coders are responsible for charting the medical records of patients who receive treatments or undergo diagnostic procedures in clinics, doctor offices or hospital emergency rooms on the same-day basis.

Inpatient medical coding: This refers to coding the records of patients who are required to stay in a hospital or any other healthcare unit for more than 24 hours, hence the name inpatient coding. Since the medical records of patients who are admitted to a hospital for treatment tend to be a lot more complex, this naturally makes the job of inpatient medical coders that much harder.

Due to advances in medicine, a lot of procedures that earlier required a hospital stay can now be performed on a same-day basis. What this means is that outpatient coding is a lot more prevalent than inpatient coding.

Another factor to consider when choosing between inpatient and outpatient coding is that employment opportunities may be more for outpatient medical coders as they can find jobs in a variety of healthcare settings that include hospitals, physician offices, diagnostic labs, outpatient care centers, nursing care facilities, etc.

On the other hand, most inpatient coding jobs are limited to large hospitals though inpatient medical coders may also find employment with long-term care facilities or health insurance companies.

Medical Coding Training

Like mentioned earlier in the article, there may be some differences in the coursework of an inpatient medical coding training program and an outpatient medical coding training course. However, a large part of the curriculum remains the same for both inpatient and outpatient coding.

Most medical coding training programs include courses in different coding systems (ICD, CPT, etc.), healthcare reimbursement process, medical record types and formats in addition to topics like medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, etc. that provide students a thorough understanding of the clinical world.

Aspirants can also choose a medical billing and coding training program that provides them the skills for both inpatient and outpatient coding. However, it’s important to remember that most medical coding professionals start their careers as outpatient coders and then move up the ranks to inpatient coding.

Now that you know what the two jobs involve, it’s for you to pick the one that suits your career goals and temperament better.

© nancyhiggins for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: medical billing and coding training, medical billing training, medical coding training

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

The Future of Medical Transcription

Nancy Higgins

Careers

Careers Employment

advanced medical transcription

medical transcription

Medical Transcription Editing

If you have been a part of the medical transcription industry for a reasonable amount of time, you must have heard numerous debates on the future of this profession. As digitization takes over our lives, can anyone be blamed for thinking this way? However, before you jump the gun and give medical transcription as a career option the cold shoulder, here’s some food for thought:

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects good job options for certified medical transcriptionists over the next few years.

The employment of medical transcriptionists (MTs) is expected to grow by 11 percent through 2018.1

While the figure is not something that will make you jump for joy, it does reflect that the demand for MTs is not drying up.

The biggest reason, according to the Department of Labor, for this continued demand for health documentation professionals is the growth in the number of Baby Boomers reaching retirement age. As more and more people in the country start turning grey, there will be significant increase in the healthcare procedures related to old age that require proper documentation.

So, the bottom line here is that medical transcription as an industry is not going anywhere, at least not in a hurry and not in the foreseeable future.

Challenges to Medical Transcription

That was the good news and now for some bad news. The truth of the matter is that medical transcription, as it stands today, does face some challenges and serious ones at that.

The entire healthcare industry is moving towards the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) environment. There is a school of thought that believes that with more and more healthcare businesses adopting this technology, the need for medical transcriptionist is going to nosedive.

With all due respect to the doomsayers, there was a similar hue and cry when the speech recognition software was first introduced. However, what this medical transcription software did was create a demand for medical transcription editors.

Medical Transcription Editing

Everyone knows that the speech recognition software is far from perfect and most doctors can’t be asked to put in the effort required to train it or the time needed to correct the flaws in the final product. The job, therefore, of reviewing and editing these documents that have a lot to be desired passes into the hands of MTs with advanced medical transcription skills that include editing and proof reading.

Similarly, even though the EMR system outwardly threatens to decrease the demand for medical transcriptionist, the optimists amongst us believe that the percentage of doctors who make a full transition to the EMR systems will be small, at least to begin with. They will still require medical transcriptionists to continue to serve as their eyes and ears and interface with the EMR system on their behalf.

So, what it may actually boil down to is MTs having to embrace the changing technology and add skills such as medical transcription editing that make them more efficient and productive. There is also hope that the EMR system may create support roles that flow naturally into the laps of medical transcriptionists who learn to keep pace with changing times.

Now it’s up to you which side of the fence you want to sit on. The side from where the future of the medical transcription industry seems bleak at best or the side where you see hurdles, but also the means to get past them!

Sources:

1. bls.gov/oco/ocos271.htm#outlook

© nancyhiggins for Uber Articles, 2012. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: advanced medical transcription, medical transcription, Medical Transcription Editing

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh

High Quality Merchant Navy & Stcw Training

Avinash Sharma

Careers Employment

Belize Coc

Merchant Navy Training Institute

Stcw Training

Merchant Navy, an exciting career as you can go to various fascinating and unusual places and your life will offer you with many adventures. Simple – they all want to work part-time. From an employer’s perspective any of these candidates would be a huge asset. Bright, articulate professional people who have been successful in their chosen field – and then chosen to take some time out. As they return to the workforce they want roles that allow them to work part-time or flexibly – perhaps with an element of home-working, or fluidity over hours of work. What advantages are there to an employer in employing one of these candidates part-time? Most obviously there is the impact on the bottom line – as the economy experiences sluggish growth most businesses are carefully considering hiring decisions. For small businesses looking to make the next leap up in size, perhaps requiring internal HR or Finance Directorship, a full time role simply isn’t necessary; the expertise however, is. Here, an experienced part-timer can make all the difference. For larger corporates looking to ensure that their workforce is as diverse as possible, and tap into a wider talent pool, offering flexibility over hours or location can be an easy way to increase diversity. Is that it though? Amanda Reuben, Director of 3P Search and Selection, a recruitment agency that focuses solely on finding candidates for part-time roles in west London thinks not: “What employers are increasingly recognising is that they are often repaid many times over by a part-time employee’s loyalty. To be able to work in a way that allows a more measured balance between home and work is so valuable to people that they really go the extra mile for the employer concerned.” Shirley Nelson, a 3P candidate, makes another point that businesses would do well to consider: “I believe those that work part time often work more intensely and smartly with less time for office politics and idle gossip!” Could there be a direct link between productivity and part-time working? Amanda thinks so: “When I sit down at my desk at 3P I am totally focussed – I know my time in the business is valuable and I love the freedom and flexibility it gives me: I make every minute count!” Both of 3P’s Directors work part-time. Neither is in the position to give up work – or indeed, wants to! As Samantha Hibbert commented: “We both like a challenge and there is little more challenging than starting your own business. However, this is only one part of who we are – we also have our children, our families and our personal interests to look after. Working part-time allows us to do all these things – and keep our sanity”. 3P is a search and selection agency, based in west London that is focused on matching great candidates to part-time or flexible roles , at mid-senior level. Because 3P isn’t sector specific – unless part-time is a sector – it comes into contact with a huge variety of candidates, from a wide cross section of industries.

© southdevonblog for Uber Articles, 2011. | Permalink | No comment | Add to del.icio.us
Post tags: home working, internal HR, part-time roles in west London, part-time working, recruitment agency, search and selection agency, small businesses, starting your own business, work part time

Feed enhanced by Better Feed from Ozh
