The Werewolf is a most terrifying creature that has haunted many people across the world fro centuries. The Werewolf is a person who transforms into a beast at night to feed on other people. Belief in the Werewolf dates back to the time of ancient Greece where the beasts are known as Lycnthorpes. Belief in was at its height during medieval Europe. From 1520 – 1630 in France, over 30,000 people were sentenced to death, being accused of being a Werewolf. However such beliefs died down and after the 18th century the notion of the Werewolf was nothing more than fantasy.

There are many variations of the Were-wolf from all mythologies. The French Werewolf, Loup Garou a horrifying beast that was human by day wolf by night. The only cure was exorcism.

There is one famous story from Bosnian folklore about a hero named Zmag Oghjeni Vuk. He was born with a sabre tooth scar which determined his destiny of being a very special type of Werewolf. Werwolves are popular to the Eastern European beliefs. Many variations exist including Vlkodlaks or Vookodlaks of Slovakia, Vircolac in the Balkan states, Vulkodlac in Russia. The Vilktais of Lithuania were said to live in caves hoarding a huge pile of treasure. This tempted would be heroes to venture out and destroy the beasts to claim the treasure.

Other types of Werewolves include Lob Ombre in Spain and the Lob Omen in Portugal. In a most bizarre fashion, the Lob Ombre and Lob Omen preferred to eat gemstones rather than any form of meat.

There was believed to be a race of Argentinean Werewolves called Tigre Capiango. These were people who could transform themselves into Jaguars by night and would ravage the countryside. A general stated that he had a whole army of these creatures. He used this belief to scare his enemies and win the civil war that took place in the 18th century.

Other Werewolves include Lob Ombre in Spain and the Lob Omen in Portugal. In a most bizarre fashion, the Lob Ombre and Lob Omen preferred to eat gemstones rather than any form of meat.

There are also many variants of Werewolves such as Were-Crocodiles, Were-Leopards, Were-Hares, Were-Dogs and lots more in many mythologies and culture across the world.

A more modern day Werewolf is the Bray Road Beast, which has been spotted in the wilderness and off the roads in the state of Wisconsin. It has been described as a large 400-700lb bear-like.
