Making a commitment to love someone no matter what, for better or for worse, or no matter how much things change, is a massive endeavour that is worth celebrating. A wedding can be a simple affair, or a luxurious one, but no matter what, a wedding should be seen as something worth splashing out on if the couple getting married really do mean what they are doing.

Sometimes when people think of a big wedding celebration, they think that it’s saying to the world “look at how great we are and how much we love each other” or “isn’t our love amazing??” But the truth is, it’s not really about that. It may be a little, but the true thing worth celebrating about a marriage is the fact that two people are making a commitment that will probably be one of the most rewarding, yet challenging ventures of their entire life.

It’s not about celebrating how perfect your love is, and how it will never fade. Feelings fade with time no matter how passionately you feel on the day. If simply celebrating how you feel in the moment was what a wedding was about, it certainly would not deserve the level of celebration we put into it.

Having a celebrating about perfect unfading love is a little unrealistic. It’s what makes people cynical about weddings and prone to get drunk and drown in their sorrows during the reception because life is just not like that. If all people were celebrating was chemistry then the expense normally spent on a wedding would not be justified.

However, if you’re really going to be serious about this commitment thing, then it’s time to make a splash. Book a fireworks display! Not to show off your love but to say to the world “we mean it!!” and mark this time with a bang! Or for some it may just be booking that band that will get everyone dancing into the night, or booking that venue that will make you feel like royalty. Whatever it is you do, make sure you do something super special.
