An Introduction For Old Retro Video Games & Systems

By Britney Banks

Buying lots of new video games for the latest consoles like PS3, Wii and Xbox can be quite costly. While most of these games are excellent with modern, realistic graphics, there are some equally amazing retro video games from years past that cost a fraction of a new game.

You can pick up an old Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast or Playstation 1 for example for next to nothing and the games are really cheap when bought from a second hand game retailer or from somewhere like ebay.

You might find you can get five or ten retro video games for the price of one new game on Wii or Xbox 360 and the retro consoles themselves are also totally cheap.

Buying an old console is the most authentic way to play retro games the way they were originally intended with the original controllers and it’s a great way to discover games you may have missed like Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy 1 to 8 or the original Tomb Raider.

Don’t let the old graphics fool you either – many old retro console games have gameplay and depth equal to any new games around today and in some cases have longer play time too. Games like Super Mario World for example on the Super Nintendo are massive and will take many hours to beat.

If you don’t want to buy the original console the you don’t need to. The Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360 all have their own download services for retro games. The Wii for example has the ‘Virtual Console’ an area you can go to on the shop channel and download loads of classic games from Neo Geo, Commodore as well as the NES, Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64.

These service are really handy as the games are good value and you don’t have to find any room by your entertainment center for extra hardware, yet you still get to play retro games from all the best developers like Sega, Konami, Capcom, Rare and loads of others.

So why not have a blast in the past and start looking to unearth some classic retro video games? You won’t regret it!
