Ways To Keep Abreast Of Forthcoming Language Events

By Steven Leonard

If you have a passion for languages, teach MFL in schools or further education or work within an export or multinational business then you will probably want to keep up to date with the latest language news and language events in your area.

There are many ways to source your language news, such as via specialist publications including those issued by translation and interpreting organisations, or from the variety of online content available on websites and blogs.

In particular, blogs are a good way of staying up to date with the latest news as they are updated regularly and very search engine friendly, so they always rank well in the search engine listing results. Websites too, can be a good source of information but if they are not updated on a regular basis you tend to find old news instead of what’s new.

Details of language events can also be found via the same publications and websites, though it often helps to know whether you are looking for local, regional or national events as there are different sites and organisations dedicated to different areas.

Many websites also give you the chance to upload the details of your own language events to be included in their searchable online listings. This is a great way of gaining some free publicity for your activities! Signing up for newsletters and ezines from language websites can also help you keep up to date with the latest news and events.

You could also try sending details of your language news and language events to your local newspaper. Although the regional and local papers have seen a reduced volume and circulation over recent years, most also have websites where stories are published.

As online readership increases and consumers buy less and less magazines and newspapers, searching on the internet should probably be your first point of call though when looking for language news and language events, as most printed publications are also available online and the information is constantly updated.
