Online Piano Lesson – Pros And Cons

By Aubrie V. Hageny

Online piano lessons are largely considered among the most effective ways of learning the piano. However, these lessons are not for everyone. In this article, we will point out the pros and cons of taking an online piano lesson at home.

Freedom

Online lessons don’t force you to follow very strict schedules. You own your time and for the most parts, this is a huge advantage, especially for adult learners who are busy. Nonetheless, not having a specific schedule may not work for everyone.

There are piano students who learn faster when they are supervised and when there is a specific schedule they have to follow. There are also students who learn the piano at a faster rate when they are obliged to follow a schedule for practicing the piano.

The point is, if you don’t manage your time very carefully, you may end up not learning a lot with online piano lessons. With too much freedom, you will find that you are at a greater risk of not learning anything.

Another disadvantage of not having a strict schedule is the possibility that the student will not be able to stick with his lessons. It is often the case of losing the interest on the piano lessons because of not being able to stick with the schedule.

If you don’t think learning at your own pace will help you, the alternatives are to look for a teacher who would supervise your lessons or a school where you can enroll yourself. Otherwise, taking piano lessons online could be ideal to you.

Coursework

The coursework is another problem area. With online lessons, teachers are not normally available. In fact, once all the learning materials are given, teachers of online lessons will rarely communicate with their students.

There are plenty of piano students, though, who are very comfortable learning in this style. Although there are also those students who learn faster with supervision. Depending on your learning style, an online piano lesson may or may not work for you.

Cost

In general, taking piano lessons can help you save money since these often are cheaper than lessons provided by schools and teachers. But, this does not say that all online piano lessons are cheap, they are not to say the least. Not that these lessons are very expensive, although there are those that are, it’s just that the additional costs of buying books and your own piano can prove very expensive. Unlike when you have a teacher who can lend you the resource.

The best way to know whether an online piano lesson is the best route for you to learn the piano is to first try a free course online. If it works for you, then go ahead and enroll yourself in an online program. If not, you can look at the likelihood of hiring a private tutor or enrolling yourself in school.

An online piano lesson is among the best ways to learn how to play the piano. But is it right for you? Find out by checking out my website.
