By Jason Keyes

The terms which are used for photography are many and most people are not familiar with them. These terms need to be learned specially if you want to become a professional photographer since these is key to understanding how photography works. This article will teach you some of the important terms that you need.

You may be familiar already with pixels and megapixels. These two terms points to the resolution of the camera. Pixels are basically smaller than megapixels since the word mega is equivalent to a thousand. If you have one thousand pixels then you have one megapixel. The number of megapixels is what people look for when they buy a digital camera. It is best to keep in mind that you want to buy a camera with high resolution. Make sure that you choose one with a higher resolution.

JPEG, which is the abbreviation of Joint Photographic Experts Group, is another common term used in photography. JPEG is a very popular compression technology and is now very widely used. JPEG in other words allows you to save pictures in a compressed form.

You also need to know this familiar term, Focal size. This is actually the feature of the camera that helps enlarge the images being captured. Wide angle and telephoto are two of the classes of focal sizes. Both of these focal sizes can be utilized for professional and amateur photography.

And the last common photography term most people cannot define is aperture. Aperture provides an entrance of light which reaches the sensor inside a digital camera. It is the opening where light can pass through so that the image can be captured.

These four terminologies are common photography words that most people cannot easily define. They have heard these terms many times but cannot explain the meaning of each. You have just learned some of the most familiar terms in photography.
