Is The LG 37LE7900 Worth Considering?

By Erica Hall

It will be interesting to see how history treats this period in time when they are looking back at the technological era. It is likely that the computer and all that it has created will take center stage in any discussion of progress in the early 21st century. And this is rightly so because they will be will have been built into everything from automobiles to microwave ovens and have changed the way we live our lives. But features available on devices like the LG 37LE7900 show that the television as well has been reinvented many times.

The original television was an incredibly crude device compared to what we have today, but everything starts somewhere. The transmission of these first grainy images spawned a yearning for more and better information transmission and capability. Within a very short period of time, spanning less than 20 years, the television gained a foothold in nearly every home in the United States. Considering there was no television to use for marketing, that is an absolutely amazing feat.

Early in the decade following its invention an enormous step was taken with the addition of color to the broadcast capability. Now a popular device was absolutely irresistible and those who were making televisions got their first taste of how an improvement could reinvent a product. They would repeat this many times in the future.

As the television was taking over America and interesting development occurred as a result of the inadequacy of over air transmission in mountainous regions. A television salesman named John Walson jerry-rigged an antenna on a utility pole and used cables to connect antenna to his shop yielding clearer image reception. What he also connected customers conveniently located geographically, he accidentally created the first cable network.

An accessory to television would provide even greater flexibility for the end-user. Video cassette recorders opened a wide variety of uses for the television. Home movies and copies of movies shown in theaters were now available whenever the family wanted. This actually spawned a lawsuit between Universal Studios and Sony Corp. The decision went in favor of Sony and the VCR and ensured the product was a mass-market success. Ironically, the movie industry found that their tapes were a major source of income. Television was again cemented as a permanent fixture in the home.

With CNN, the notion that television programming transmitted over cables with a clear format could be bundled and sold as a package took hold. Televisions had increasingly improved the quality and clarity of the images they could display and the sizes of the screens became widely varied and large. Projection televisions became very popular, especially with sports fans.

Next came the digital phenomenon, an offshoot of computer technology that completely reinvigorated the production and dissemination of imagery. It quickly took over the VCR with the digital video disc so good it began to threaten even movie theaters. The era of the home theater had arrived. With surround sound and giant flat screen televisions and the availability of recently released films, the traditional theater would need to reinvent itself to keep up.

Another facet of change brought on by the digital era was the clarity of image production on the television screen. Now we were able to see high-definition, Blu-Ray disc presentations on our televisions so real and so clear we can honestly believe we are there. These innovations and many more are available on devices such as the LG 37LE7900 which shows us the future truly looks bright for television.
