On February 11, 1992, actor Taylor Lautner was born in Michigan to Deborah and Daniel Lautner. With a mixed heritage, he developed a competitive edge at a very early age when he began competing in martial arts competitions.
Lautner has become quite famous as a karate champion. Beginning to train at the age of 6, his talent was quickly recognized. By the age of eight he began training with Mike Chat, a renowned world champion in the sport. Taylor went on to represent the United States in a number of Junior World Forms and Weapons competitions, winning several gold’s and the title of Champion. By the age of twelve he was a black belt champion at the Junior World level.
At the age of ten Lautner became interested in acting and informed his parents that this was what he wanted to do. After flying frequently between Los Angeles and Michigan for several years, the entire family finally moved to the Santa Clarita area in California. Continuing his concentration on acting, he began auditioning for advertising and acting rolls more frequently while he also developed a deep interest in football and baseball.
A television-movie called “Shadow Fury” was his first real acting role which launched his career. This was followed by roles on “My Wife and Kids” and ” The Bernie Mac Show” in 2001. As time went on, he was selected for a number of bit parts and was the voice for some animated characters in several shows. His big breakthrough came when he was selected to play the part of Shark boy in an animated film called “The Adventures of Shark boy and Lava girl, 3-D.” His acting in that film was well received and his selection for other roles soon followed.
Shortly after his Shark boy role, Taylor successfully secured the role of Eliot in “Cheaper by the Dozen 2″ where he was teamed with the likes of Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Eugene Levy and many others who helped him hone his skills. This journey has also generated a new interest in fields such as scriptwriting and directing which he has been able to practice at his high school where he has made two movies.
Lautner’s role as Jacob Black in the “Twilight” movies was well received; however, in order to ensure the same part in the sequel he had to work very hard to beef up his physique. This included having an intense weight-training program which allowed him to gain more than 30 pounds of muscle. He has many other accolades, but one he is most well-known for is serving as the youngest host in the history of “Saturday Night Live.”
With his martial arts ability, the recognition of his diversity has ensured him future acting parts which now include roles in the upcoming movies “Cancun” and “Abduction” due to release in 2010. He also has a voice part in a new “Stretch Armstrong” 3-D movie. He has received the attention of studio heads and is now considered a very hot commodity in the industry.
Taylor Lautner has won awards as People’s Choice for Male Breakout Performance, the Kid’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actor, and many others. Taylor Lautner continues his acting career with enthusiasm. He is the highest paid teen in the industry and it seems there is no stopping his journey to a career that will remain in movie history for years to come.
