Worth 1000 Words: Taking The Perfect Picture

By Maritza White

Do you have a budding interest in photography with no clue about how to take those crisp, beautiful shots? Not sure if the shots are right or the lighting is perfect for different moods? Even an experienced photographer can use advice sometimes, and this article provides the advice that you need.

Know the purpose of your photo before you start taking the shots. You will be able to capture some scenes better by shooting them vertically, rather than horizontally. It is always possible to edit a shot, but don’t give yourself extra work by using a poor angle.

Don’t expect to become a brilliant photographer overnight. A good shot is either there, or it isn’t. If you force the shot, it will end up in lousy, blurry pictures.

Challenge your creativity by creating a limitation for your photo shoot. One way is to limit your shots for a whole day to subjects that express a single idea. Then go and take 100 different photos in the same room or with the same point of view. Working under such limitations will spur you to think creatively and take more experimental photos.

Use different angles for your shots to personalize them. There’s nothing unique about snapping a picture from a straight-on angle. You can try switching your photography style by trying a birds-eye view of your subject. Alternatively, try kneeling and looking up. Other interesting alternatives are framing your subject from a diagonal or sideways view.

Shoot your pictures very quickly. You can never tell how fast that fleeting moment will flee, so always be ready for it. Expressions can change, animals will run away, and the mood you associate with a landscape can disappear. If you focus too much on perfecting all your camera’s settings, you can lose the shot you want to take. So don’t stress yourself out too much over this.

When you are setting up a photograph, keep your effort simple. You can take great pictures without changing your color or motion settings.

If your camera uses lithium batteries you should be aware of airport rules about having such batteries. Most airlines do not allow you to travel with extra batteries in your luggage for safety reasons. You can, however, have these on board if the batteries are already inside of your camera.

As you see, it does take some genuine preparation and knowledge to achieve great photographic images. Some of what you learn is easily applied right away to your shots, but some of it takes a little time, patience and practice to get right. Keep in mind that photography is meant to be an enjoyable activity. By keeping this advice in your mind, you can find success in photography shortly.
