Moving Last Minute

By Natali Hous

Moving can be one of the most stressful events in anybody’s life and choosing a reliable moving and storage company can help to relieve some of the stress felt and make the process of moving much easier. It’s important to find the right moving company especially if you need to move a piano, paintings or other items that require special care. Some moving companies do all of the packing for you, which would cost more than if you do the packing yourself. If you need to store your household in between moves there are storage facilities available as well. Moving company estimates differ for local and long-distance moves. If you are moving long distance, the weight of the items moved and the distance typically calculate the charge. Most movers are professionals with years of experience. Whatever your moving needs are, get a free moving company estimate today.

In order to get more accurate moving company estimates, make sure you tell the mover about everything you are having moved so he can calculate accurately. If you have items that require special care or need special services (like packing) then let them know in advance. It is probably a good idea to get estimates from several different movers. When getting your moving estimates, make sure you discuss how the mover will be paid. Many movers do not take personal checks so you best be aware of the type of payment you will have to hand over and when this payment is expected – no one wants to have to run out to the bank to get cash for the movers in the middle of moving day!

It is important to place your belongings correctly inside your moving truck. This will make the ride smoother and unloading a whole lot easier. Always load the heaviest items first. This will help keep the truck stable on the road. It’s a good idea to store items you’ll use most at the front of the unit where you can get them easily. Secure each box with rope tied to the tie-down rings. You should place large cabinets, sofas, desks, refrigerators, and other heavy appliances against the front wall of the truck. It is also highly recommended to use protective covers on sofas and mattresses. Then load chairs, tables, bookcases and light items towards the back. Stand large, flat items like mirrors, mattresses, box springs and tabletops upright against the truck walls and securely tie them. Wrap mirrors and pictures with protective thick padded blankets or use a special mirror carton and store them on end. Make sure to have all of the right packing materials in advance. Stack lighter boxes on top of bigger, heavier ones. The storage company with home delivery & pick up is handling many of the logistics of your storage and/or moving process. You’ll want to make sure they will stand behind their work. And ask for actual studies of customer feedback on their service. Don’t settle for “our customers really like us.” When considering schedules, ask for a guaranteed delivery time frame on your selected delivery date.

Set up a one on one appointment with a moving consultant to assist you with your move. A consultant assesses the property and helps you organize your belongings. He works closely with you in order to determine which professional movers will be sent, the size of the truck, and the tools or materials needed for the job. He creates a moving package that meets your specific needs. This is designed to eliminate the stress out of the moving transition and helps build trust and confidence.

A good moving and storage company should be able to offer you the following services at no additional cost to you. 1. They will visit your home and provide an estimate for their services. 2. They will provide insurance on any items that are lost or damaged during either removal or storage. 3. They can provide you with an expert packing service if you wish. 4. Will arrange to have all items removed from your old property and transport them to your new one. 5. Will arrange to have all items placed in the rooms where they required when they arrive at your new home. 6. They will use protective coverings to ensure that all carpets and flooring in your old home and new one is not damaged. 7. Many storage facilities offer two main types of storage. One is containerized storage and the other is self-storage. When choosing a removal and storage company the following points should be considered. 1. Choose a moving and storage company that has been recommended to you. 2. If you can avoid moving on Friday’s or at the end of the month as many companies offer cheaper deals at the times when they are less busy. 3. Confirm with the moving and storage company how many staff will be at your home to help with the move. 4. If you need to get access to your goods whilst in storage then choose a company who is close to your home. 5. Arrange to get quotations from at least three different companies. 6. Also arrange to visit the storage site of the company you are looking to use to ensure that you are satisfied with the security and access that they offer. 7. If you decide to use self-storage then find out from the company when you can have access to your storage area (some companies for an additional fee will offer 24 hour 364 days a year). 8. If however you go for containerized storage then make sure you make a complete list of all items that are stored in the container and get the storage company to sign a copy. Choosing the right moving and storage facility is easy as long as you follow the steps we have provided above.
