Introducing Volkswagen’s XL1 Concept Car

By Jane Adamo

The Volkswagen XL1 is a concept car that is designed for ultimate economy. The car looks far different from anything that Volkswagen has ever produced before. In truth, it looks far different from virtually any other vehicle that has ever been in production in the United States or anywhere else. The futuristic looking car is sleek and streamlined to a fault. However, this is not merely for looks. It is designed in such a way because its ultimate goal is to provide the driver with the most economical vehicle that has ever been produced. In order to achieve this, the car was made from lightweight materials that are virtually space age instead of the traditional materials that most automobiles are constructed from. It also features a powertrain that is designed to work together in order to achieve the greatest amount of economy possible.

Another thing that is very unique about this vehicle is that it is a hybrid that runs on diesel. The car is designed to be plugged in to regular electrical outlets, making it much easier for people to own in a practical sense. Moreover, the vehicle can travel a distance of 75 miles without having to be charged even when it is operated solely on the electric motor. By combining its outstanding fuel economy and its hybrid features the car can travel an average distance of 280 miles on a single gallon of diesel fuel. This makes it one of the most cost effective vehicles that has ever been produced.

The car has the same standard features that most popular automobiles have today including navigation and entertainment systems. The only deviations from this practice were considered in order to keep the car as lightweight as possible and avoid any potential problems that would compromise its fuel economy due to extra features that would increase its weight. It seems as though the car’s sole drawback is its purchase price. At $146,000, the car is definitely not something that the average everyday citizen can afford to purchase. It should be noted that the purchase price can quickly be made up for with the economy that is associated with operating the vehicle. Unfortunately, many individuals simply cannot come up with the money to purchase a car that is so expensive. This eliminates much of the general public who is most concerned about fuel economy from being able to purchase the vehicle.

However, for anyone who can afford to purchase the car, the costs associated with operating it after the purchase has been made are extremely low. So far the car has been produced in relatively low numbers, largely because of its expensive purchase price. The car is available for purchase at Volkswagen dealerships in some areas and it can also be special ordered. To date, approximately 50 automobiles have been purchased in the United States.

The Volkswagen XL1 is a very unique automobile that is likely to herald in many similar automobiles in the future. The designers of this automobile are pioneering new and innovative methods for reducing the operating costs associated with owning such a vehicle as well as protecting the planet by reducing the carbon footprint that is left behind by having so many vehicles on the road. At a time when the availability and the cost of energy is always on the minds of most Americans it is important to know that this type of technology is on the horizon and that many car companies are likely to capitalize on it in the future.

More importantly, it is vitally important that each person do his or her part to be more environmentally friendly. The technology that is used in this automobile is one such way to accomplish that goal. This car is different because it has the technology that is necessary to make great strides toward a real change in the automobile industry. As the technology becomes more readily available it will no doubt become more affordable, thus allowing more individuals to drive similar vehicles.
