Making Money Through Car Rental Business

By Joe Macker

While just renting a car can be a fairly simple task, getting the best price for your money and effort can be a little more tricky. Small print concealing charges, hidden costs, and deals you would have asked about if you’d only known can all add up to make your rental experience hurt your pocketbook. Being a well-informed renter can provide you with a whole host of options that will help you keep your hard earned money for gas once you already have the rental.

Your basic procedure for renting is fairly straightforward, and should start with you gathering no less than three rental agencies you’d be willing to work with. When you call, you’ll want to find out where the agency’s offices are local to your pick up destination, what kind of availability they have during your trip, whether or not they have special deals they can offer you, and whether the rental agency has deals set up to get you discounts based on airlines or hotels you’re using. Keep this information handy as you do your searching.

At this point, it is important to keep track of the pick up and drop off locations for your trip. If you do, you’ll almost certainly get hit with extra charges. Next, spend some time thinking about the kind of vehicle you need: there are different sizes depending on the car: once this is done, use a credit card to reserve your rental car, that way you can be sure that it’ll be waiting for you on the day of pickup.

Now, in addition to the usual details of the car rental, there are a lot of factors a renter should take into account. Do you want 24-hour roadside assistance? How are you going to get yourself to the car and back from the drop: sometimes the agency will offer to help you with this? Does your insurance cover the rental already, and if it does, is the agency taking this into account? And finally, do you have a very limited number of places you need to be driving? Sometimes a mileage cap can reduce the overall price on the rental.

Finally, a few additional notes can help save you money. Summer rentals are usually more expensive. Airport rentals are generally more expensive than their in-town counterparts. Never leave the rental to a person younger than 25 for your group. Remember these details, and it will help save you some gas money for your trip.
