Looking for some fun? Whatever you do, Don't Click Here!

If you grow up in rural America, often times you will have to devise means to entertain yourself in the event of boredom. Since you aren’t living in downtown Chicago or someplace like that, you don’t have all the options of events and things to do like city folks. Many of these outlets stem from not being scared to get a little dirty if it means some good ole’ fun. I’m certain that’s how mud bogging got its start. And if you don’t know what mud bogging is, I will be proud to introduce you.

There are many things you need to know to fully understand all this sport has to offer. For instance, you need to understand that to those that participate, this is a sport. Other things that will be addressed within this article are: what mud bogging actually is and how you should go about getting a good mudder. Which means, how to get a vehicle in shape to mud bog.

Let’s begin by reiterating that mud bogging is in fact a sport. Though not as popular overall as football and baseball, mud bogging still has followers that are generally specific to their particular regions or counties. In the south, mud bogging will go on year round, as the warm weather permits year round bogs. Up north, mud bogging is exclusive to spring and summer. These are the only seasons that permit the consistency of mud required for a successful mud bog.

You have to have two things to really make a mud bog work: a good vehicle and a good pit of mud. We will get to the vehicle part later. The mud is usually laid out in a trench a few feet deep spanning anywhere from an eighth of a mile to a full mile. This all depends on the amount of space that you have to work with, and whether or not this is a consistent mud bogging venue.

In order to win a mud bog, the driver must pass through the trench of mud successfully. Seems simple enough, right? When you account for the mud being up to 4 feet deep in some cases, it gets a little tricky. Sometimes there will be several that complete the line and make it out of the other side, while alternatively there will be several bogs that see no one safe from being pulled back out. The rules state that whoever made it the farthest wins in the event that no one makes it out without help and if several make it through, the truck with the best time doing so is declared winner.

You need to have a vehicle that can handle these elements if one hopes to compete, let alone win, at a typical mud bog. This means you should have a powerful engine that can keep on chugging, even when its being worked far past its routine capacity. Many participants will stress the importance of jacking up your mudder and throwing on some big tires. Making a semi-monster truck to get you easily across. Basically, cars will rarely make it and so you need to stick with jeeps and trucks.

Mud bogging is usually only competing for bragging rights, and every once and a while a wager or community pool taken among the racers and spectators. This keeps the sport grounded and still fairly wholesome.

Mud bogging may never be as big as football, but it has certainly cemented a place for itself among outdoor gamers. It could be the slinging mud or the roar of the engines, whatever it is, it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.

When you grow up in the country, you have to get creative when it comes to entertainment. This pasttime is better known as mud bogging to those who do it. Mud bogging may never be as large as football, but it has certainly cemented a place for itself among outdoor gamers.
