Calming Anxiety-Ridden Pets The Natural Way

By Ace Winget

Animals can be very similar to humans sometimes, in respects to their emotions. Dogs can still suffer from stress and anxiety, just like humans do. They can have traumatizing experiences, just like humans.

Pets that are suffering from anxiety can get help. Using essential oils can allow your pets a chance to heal. Natural medicines offer less negative side effects than traditional medicine.

The two main essential oils we will discuss in this article are lavender and roman chamomile. Both have great properties that help animals that have fears, hyperactivity, and depression. They help with stress, trauma, or any other feelings of anxiety.

Talk to your vet before you apply or administer any essential oils to your pets. Pets are more sensitive to the oil than humans are, so the less you have to use the better. Dilute the essential oil so it is not so pure by using a carrier oil. Here are a few examples.

For a dog you can calm their anxiety by mixing 1 drop of lavender and Roman Chamomile oil with 1 drop of carrier oil. This mixture can be applied directly on the fur if your dog would like that. The mixture can also be applied on your dog’s pads and on his ears.

Calm horses with the same recipe. Mix 1 drop of lavender and roman chamomile with 1 drop of carrier oil to dilute it. When you notice your horse acting particularly stressed you can whip this up to help. Apply the oil to the horse’s muzzle or cornet bands. You can also apply it on your horse’s ears.

Be wary of essential oils and cats, however. Cats lack an enzyme that allows their liver to digest phenols. It is very important to not use oils that contain phenols, such as oregano and thyme.

Lavender and Roman Chamomile, on the other hand, are completely safe for cats. You should dilute it more than with animals, by using 10 drops of carrier oil instead of just 1. You can apply the mixture on the cat’s ears, fur, and pads.
