Electrolysis Hair Removal

By Linda Allison

Electrolysis is among the hottest methods of hair elimination. It’s got many advantages over the hair laser removal system. Undesired hair growth as on ladies upper lip along with arms is usually caused due to hereditary reasons or as a result of hormonal levels and also by certain drugs and conditions. There are several processes available to get rid of unwanted hair like waxing, bleaching as well as laser removal. Electrolysis is possibly the sole permanent one and also the safest. It’s got fewer side effects too.

Many people who do not find laser methods suitable for them choose electrolysis hair removal. Electrolysis is especially good for darker skinned people with grey or blond hair as other methods are not so effective for them.

The electrolysis process for getting rid of undesired hair was first used in 1875 by an ophthalmologist called Dr. Charles E. Michael on a individual to get rid of an ingrown eye lash. Ever since, this process has been modified to get rid of undesired hair from any part of the body.

To perform electrolysis, a special needle known as an epilator is used to regulate short wave radio wavelengths or electro chemical currents or both into a specific hair follicle at a time and in accordance with its depth, thickness as well as direction of growth. The current destroys the follicle that is the growth centre of the hair targeting the dermal papilla. Hence hair can never grow back ever again. A special probe is used next to pierce the follicle and the hair is pulled out with forceps while not causing any discomfort to the patient.

Electrolysis is considered a permanent method of unwanted hair removal. The Food and Drug Administration and the American Medical Association acknowledge only electrolysis as a permanent procedure for unwanted hair removal. It has little side effect usually. Contrary to the common worry of discomfort we have associated to electrolysis sessions, there is just a tingling pain at most in electrolysis and no blood loss whatsoever. Even that can be prevented with topical anesthesia.

Besides the permanence aspect, electrolysis can be an easier as well as less dangerous option than many other techniques including bleaching and waxing which may cause soreness, pain and even lasting discoloration of skin which is not the case with electrolysis. Even laser method is more restricted than electrolysis. Laser treatment is restricted to only light skinned people with dark unwanted hair as laser operates by targeting and destroying pigment it can burn people with dark skin and not provide the complete results in the case of people with light hair.

Electrolysis can be a lengthy procedure though. It is typically completed in repeated sessions because only growing hair can be targeted and hair doesn’t grow all together at the same rate. One may need anywhere between 15 to 30 sessions. It is also expensive. A 30 minute session can cost$ 45.

But even then it is the most preferred method for as discussed above it is permanent, safe and less painful than most techniques and there is no fear of skin damage or discoloration from chemicals.
