False eyelashes were invented by movie director D.W. Griffith, who created false eyelashes in order to make the eyes of actresses more outstanding while he was filming the nineteen-sixteen epic movie “Intolerance”. A wig maker wove human hair through a fine guaze material to get this product. This creation was then attached to the actresses’ lash line. From that time, eyelashes have become common not only in Hollywood, but in regular society also.

In the 1930′s and 40′s, in the time of black and white movies, actresses such as Betty Davis, Joan Crawford, and Marlene Dietrich wore false eyelashes to make their own eyelashes stand out. Around the nineteen sixties, the model Twiggy made false eyelashes part of the Mod appearance and immediately many housewives started using them. Although, this did not last very long and it was worn mainly by drag queens and showgirls.

False Eyelashes Today

Today’s wearer is spoilt for choices and is often puzzled by them as far as it has to do with eyelashes. False eyelashes come in so many different lengths, thicknesses, and also colors. The best selection for you is one which is nearest to your natural eyelash.

This implies not picking false eyelashes that are too thick, or too dark. Dark brown eyelashes are the best for color. If you have dark colored skin, then you could attach black eyelashes too. If you are a blonde, it is wise to pick lighter-colored fake eyelashes.

If you make a mistake and purchase false eyelashes that are either too long or too wide, there are steps to help you get them to the desired length or width.

All you have to do is trim them if they are too long. It is important not to cut too much off, because while you can easily cut more off, you can’t return and restore length.

If the fake eyelashes you selected are too wide, then you have to hold up the eyelashes to your eye and guess how much to resize. Gently trim off a few hairs on one extreme of the eyelashes, and then measure it again. Continue doing this till your fake eyelashes are the exact width. it is not unusual to trim false eyelashes because they are normally too wide.

False eyelashes are readily available in most beauty shops or salons and come in different shapes and sizes. If you are looking to temporarily change your look and are not after a more permanent look like permanent eyelash extensions or semi permanent eyelash extension than false eyelashes are the ones for you.
