What You Can Do With Second Hand Clothing Online

By Jill Faulkner

It is incredibly easy to find second hand clothing online. There are a number of sites that allow people to buy and sell their clothes that have been used online, often without taking any commission for the transaction. Some of these sites may charge a small commission or members’ fee, while others allow for items to be auctioned off to the highest bidder instead of being sold at a set price.

Why would you want to sell or buy used garments? Well, there is a lot you can do with items that have bee used. For example, a vintage piece, which is a piece that is over a certain age, can sell for quite a bit of money if the condition of the piece is really good. You can receive quite a lot of money for vintage items in excellent condition.

You may be a collector of vintage pieces, which some individuals most certainly are. Some collectors even donate pieces for exhibition purposes. Nonetheless, vintage is and has been a major fashion statement for some time. The fact that an item can survive wear and tear after all these years and still look good shows how well it is made.

You may want to purchase things via the Internet because you will get them at a much lower cost when they have been used. This eliminates the need to go in a store and pay extra for something brand new, when you can just as easily get something that looks new for less. Besides, the majority of online sellers will only sell items that are in great condition.

People who choose to sell their items online are probably trying to make some money while disposing of things they no longer want, or perhaps never fit them in the first place. It’s a lot like a garage sale taking place online. In many instances, a person may find an item that is completely different to what is available to them at home. This is when online shopping works well.

People who buy used clothes online may be looking for something specific that is no longer in fashion therefore not readily available in stores. Alternatively, they may be environmentally conscious folk who are looking for ways to reuse and recycle items. By enforcing such habits, they are helping to reduce the demand for mass produced retail items, which in turn helps with wider global issues.

Examples of such issues include child labour or overworked employees for unfair wages. However, buying things via the Internet may exacerbate other issues, such as having to transport items via ground, sea or air from one country or region to the next. Using these methods uses an abundance of fuel, which does not help the environment.

There are specific reasons as to why you might buy second hand clothing online. You may be a fashion student wanting to learn more about specific items of clothing, without using what is in your closet or spending great amounts of money in a store. Internet shopping will allow you to find items that may not be accessible in your area, or special items like national costumes.
