By William John

A line of stretch marks on your belly is a put off. Many women are not comfortable even in the presence of their loved ones. Imagine their plight when they are on a beach with friends and in clothing that reveals stretch marks? It is a cause of discomfort and embarrassment.

Stretch marks are skin scars that appear when the underlying tissue grows and the skin is expanded beyond its limit. The tears produced and as a result cause scarring when they heal. Women mostly get them during pregnancy. For men it is a less common problem mostly occurring during muscle building.

As they are scars, they are difficult to get rid of. There are many guides which suggest treatment methods that make tall claims. If they do work, they are going to take years. And they might just lighten them a bit. Prevention is better than trying to get rid of them. Their appearance during pregnancy is certain.

They can nevertheless be prevented with a good degree of success. Stretch mark prevention creams can be used as preventives rather than treatments. While they do help lighten the marks after they appear, it takes a lot of time, if it is going to work. But using them as your abdomen becomes bigger during pregnancy can prevent them from appearing.

All the required vitamins and other nutrients are present in these creams to keep the skin strong and elastic. They also help the body produce more elastin and collagen fibers. These fibers are the foundation structures of the skin, giving it elasticity and strength. This in turn makes the skin accommodate the growth. Vitamin A present also makes the skin firm and stay young.

While surgery is a quick fix option, it is expensive and most women want to undergo the procedure after the pregnancy. There can also be complications and side effects. Stretch mark prevention creams have no side effects, are topical and they are not inexpensive.

It is important to take a protective approach towards stretch marks during pregnancy before it get too worst. Learn more on how to get rid of stretch marks
