There are three basic ways to achieve a tan and there are tanning lotions to assist you in every way. In truth there is only one way to achieve a real tan and the other two types are fake tans that temporarily give coloration to your skin. There are bronzers which act like a makeup on the skin and then there are tanning lotions that cause a chemical reaction on the skin to cause the production of color.

One of the biggest benefits of working for a real tan is the lasting effects. But for those who are naturally very light it is important to take care and not expose the skin to more UV rays than it is ready to handle. Avoid burning by tanning in short session under moderate conditions.

Many tanners choose to use tanning oils or tanning lotions. These products are designed to increase the effect of the UV rays and accelerate the tanning process. One good thing about tanning lotion is that it offers the skin some hydration with the built in moisturizer. Exposure to UV rays causes skin dryness which the tanning lotion helps combat.

Fake tanning lotions and sprays that are DHA based are generally regarded as very safe. The chemicals do not affect anything beyond the dead skin cells on the surface of the skin so the worse that could happen is an allergic reaction or irritation. This is avoided by simply testing on a small area and treating any negative side effects in that small area.

Another option is to use a bronzer to tan the skin. A bronzer is simply a product that colors the skin but does nothing to change the chemical or biological composition of the person. It is simply like a makeup that sits on top of the skin. A bronzer is a very temporary method of adding color to the skin since it washes off with a shower.

There are various ways a person can pull off a tan and one method for each occasion. The many types of indoor tanning lotions reflect our culture’s demand for skin care products. Tanning lotions are often used for immediate effects but there are also types that improve the quality of a tan.
