There are actually two types of mobile or portable shampoo sink, one is used for care giving an older people and disabled people who are just lying on bed and don’t have the capability of doing it on their own. This kind of shampoo sink is called shampoo basin or inflatable sink.
They are usually made of rubberized inflatable material just like a portable swimming pool only a lot smaller. When inflated, it can be easily inserted behind the head while lying on the mattress and can hold large volume of water used while rinsing shampoo from hair. The water gathered can be easily removed by using the drain hose attached and the product itself can be wiped clean dry using a hand towel. After using, it can quickly deflated by opening the valve located on the side and can be folded into a small unit for easy safe-keeping. Not like plastic, the inflated sink is very soft and cushions the client’s neck and shoulder just like a air pillow while shampooing. It can be inflated by mouth or by using a compact air pump or small air compressor.
The other type is called the portable shampoo bowl which is frequently used in beauty shops and saloons. It is often constructed of hard plastic which is cast to go along with the contour of the neck.
It also has a built-in stand so it can be easily placed at the rear of the recliner seat. At the lowest portion of the bowl is a drain hose which you can extend downward going to a plastic container (plastic container normally not bundled when you purchase the product). The included stands height is completely adjustable to suit various recliner seat size and doesn’t need any tools to do it. Some brands offer a wheel on the stand so it can be easily relocated from one place to another.
There’s also a much simple version of this product, it’s called the hair washing tray. This unit is actually not considered as a sink since it does not hold the rinsing water but divert it the real sink instead. Just like any portable shampoo bowl it is made of plastic and is positioned at the rear of the head and channels the rinse water straight to the sink and it doesn’t have a drain hose. This is best for home use and a lot more affordable than portable bowl.
You can find them at any hair salon equipment retailers or you can take advantage and have it delivered in your front doorstep when you buy it on the internet. The bundle usually contains all the things you need to setup the product easily, including the instruction handbook. No need to call for a professional and doesn’t need any special tools to set up. Based on the model you choose you purchase you can have accessory options like shampoo spray nozzle and plastic container or you can purchase them separately.
