If you’re a newbie with a blog, and a dream to sell something on that blog – yet you don’t know WHAT exactly – then you need to find a niche market for yourself, before you get that blog off the ground. OK – so where do you find some examples?
Well, first – before pursuing what type of thing you want to sell, you should learn to think like the average buyer does – in regards to how he decides to purchase an item, no matter what it happens to be.
This shouldn’t be too hard for you to absorb, since you, yourself, are a consumer, as well. In fact, as you read the next paragraph, you will probably find that you think along the same lines as the fictitious buyer does, when making a purchase.
The very first thing that happens is someone sees something that stirs the interest. In fact, stirs it enough that he takes the time to learn all about what it is, what it can do – and how it will aid him in some special way.
Then, he usually finds a few different types of the thing he likes, and “compares” one against the other. This time he’s looking for the one that will give him the most benefit for his investment. Finally, when he’s convinced he’s found the one that stands out over all the rest – he buys it. All of this makes perfect sense!
Now that you’ve gotten this down, where do you find potential “niches” – so you can decide what it is you’d like to sell to the prospect?
Well, you could get up an hour early before work each day, and wake up family members and friends with phone calls in order to pick their brains and find out what THEY think the world is interested in this week. But, besides making you a real irritation to them from that point on, this would take entirely too much extra time to put into play. And, if you’re like everyone else these days, extra time is something you don’t have.
Wouldn’t it just be better to let the internet do the work in finding your niche for you? Here are some examples of ways it can do just that:
Check out the online auction sites, and observe what items people are bidding on. Pay special attention to those things that seem to have a longevity as far as popularity goes. Meaning – those that are always in demand by the consumer, regardless of how many years have passed. Also, try to pinpoint those things that may just be a passing fad – like the “pet rock”, that was the craze in the U. S., a few decades ago.
Once you’ve determined this, pick one that interests you, and study it until you become more or less of an expert on it. Then, you can either choose to sell a version of it yourself, or specialize in providing a service or product relating to it – and in that, you will have found your “niche” market.
Another great way to find those niches, is to use the online idea generators that are springing up everywhere on the web. All you do is pop in a word or short phrase pertaining to your interest, and you’ll get back some ideas you may not have thought of. But remember, those tools are fun, and rather like a game, so be careful not to get stuck on one site too long!
A little known venue in pursuing a speciality, is to use the domain name grabber websites to your advantage. Put in a keyword or two about a subject that interests you, and see what domain names come up that are available – and what shows as having already been taken by someone else. You’ll get an idea of what’s out there domain-wise, and may even think of something new to sell, that is a spin off from what you saw when you were on the site.
There are many different ways you can go in order to determine the perfect niche market for you – the ones you just read were only the tip of the iceberg. If you are so inclined, do a little research on your own, and you might just come up with a creative way to bring the world something it hasn’t yet seen.
