When replacing any old appliances in the home most people will send what they have off to be recycled. But there are plenty of others who instead will keep them at home as they cost too much to send away to the recycling plant. Below we take a look at some of the creative things to do with your old appliances that you may find useful.

1. Side Table With Light

If you are looking for a side table for your living room that is more contemporary looking and have an old washing machine lying around. Then remove the drum from inside the machine. After cleaning it thoroughly using some baking soda you can then spray it or leave it the colour it is. Now place it on the floor in your living room with the back of the drum seated on the floor and over the opening at the top place a thick piece of glass that is slightly wider than the drum. To make it in to a light then you just install a light fitting inside.

2. Plant Pots

For those who do not have very big gardens then using old drums from inside washing machines and tumble dryers as plant pots should be considered. These are really great to use as they come with holes already in them so the risk of water building up inside the pots is reduced and so there is much less chance of the plants dying off inside them because they won’t become water logged. If you do intend to use drums from old appliances to make pots for plants then place inside them plants with large leaves as this will help to create a more rustic look.

3. Shed

It can prove quite difficult to move much bigger appliances such as fridges when they no longer work so instead why not covert yours into a shed in which items for the garden or garage can be kept. Of course before you do convert yours into a shed get the refrigerants removed from them and arrange to have a qualified engineer carry this work out.

4. Television Fish Tank

When it comes to creative things to do with your old appliances this is one of the most expensive to do, but it will certainly become the focal point in any room. To convert a TV into a fish tank you first need to remove the back so all the components that made it work can be removed. If you don’t feel comfortable doing this yourself then arrange for a qualified electrician to carry it out for you. After everything has been removed you will need to reinforce the TV so that it can take the weight of the fish tank when filled with water easily. Once the TV has been reinforced now you can place inside it the tank and then of course fill it with water and fish. The great thing about putting a tank inside a TV is that you all wires for powering it are hidden from view.
