Things To Consider When Ordering Promotional Items

By Aya Wilkinson_

When you first start searching for promotional items the types and ranges on the market can seem a bit daunting. How do you know what products to choose and where is the best place to order them from? There are many different contributing factors you need to take in to consideration when looking at which products to choose. The promotional items choice follows similar rules to other advertising choices which when done correctly can make for a successful campaign.

Firstly you need to look at your target audience. Promotional items are most successful when they are used repeatedly. Choosing items that will be of no use or are not liked by your target audience could mean they could end up in the bin. You need to think about the needs and wants of your target audience and team this up with something appropriate from your company. Secondly you need to consider your budget, how much advertising budget does your company have to spend and what is the eventual worth of the out come. For higher out come profit margins more luxury items can be used, but for low profit volume sales, similar promotional items need to be sought.

The promotional products you choose are a direct representation of your company. Do not choose items that are too cheap as this may have a negative impact. Also it is good to bear in mind health and safety by making enquiries about where the items come from and the safety tests that are performed. If the item doesn’t work properly then this will also end up in the bin. It is always good to ask for samples to see the quality of the products, or if this is not possible any recommendations the distributer may have regarding the items.

When you have decided on what sort of products you would like to use, then you need to source a supplier. There are many different promotional product distributors available so choosing the right one can seem a bit of a challenge. Look to see how long the company has been trading for and see if you can find any reviews. A good distributor will know their products inside out, so it is always worth to speak to them to check. They will know which products will suit your need in your budget and also make sure they are delivered on time.

It can be tempting to go directly to the manufacturer for the delivery of promotional items. This can be dangerous in many ways. Firstly, unless you have been recommended this manufacturer you do not know the quality or the testing of the products, where as the distributor should be able to advise of these points. Secondly if it is a brand new contact you do not know if they will deliver the products in time and you could be faced with an exhibition with no promotional materials. It is the distributors role to ensure the quality from reputable suppliers and also make sure these are delivered on time – A invaluable service.
