There are various crucial factors that should be kept in mind in the interior design of any area. Proper adherence to the guidelines mentioned below will help in tackling with most of these aspects. Each of them plays a significant role in the appeal of a place, though they may be put to use in varied ways in various situations.

Unity: As per this tenet, while designing the interiors, care must be taken to maintain uniformity in the overall design, as a building must be treated as one entity, which is separated into a number of parts by walls. The overall theme must always be taken into account.

Balance: This concerns the distribution of the visual weight in a space. It is always better to keep things with equal visual characteristics at different points so as to achieve a fair balance. Balance can be of three types. The first is symmetrical, which is the most traditional, and the simplest to attain. The second kind is asymmetrical balance, which is very much in vogue, but requires a good deal of imagination. The third is radial, which is achieved by using a central point or item from which the other items seem to be relatively positioned.

Proportion: This deals with the relative sizes of items in an area. It is vital that a majority of items in a room be proportional to one another. An absence of proportion will cause the room to lose its overall appeal as some objects will be too visible, while others may get buried in the background.

Focus: High quality interior design requires a focus in the space. The focal object may be a furniture item or even a show piece such as a painting or a sculpture. This item must make an impression on the viewer and also fall in line with the design of the rest of the room. It must be eye-catching without appearing irrelevant in the room.

Rhythm: Having a rhythm too is absolutely important for attaining a good design. This means that the design should have a feeling of continuity and smooth flow. This can be attained through the use of arcs, patterned walls or floors, through decorations or furnishings, and through alternating shades or shapes.

If adequate attention is given to these aspects, you can be sure that the interior designing exercise will be effective. It is dvisable to engage a good interior design professional who can handle all these aspects and also help you with the details.
