What Are Birthday Cakes Made Of?

It has been a long-time tradition to include birthday cakes for the birthday occasion and there’s no denying that most of the time the birthday cake becomes the most special part of the party not just because everyone loves it but because no birthday celebration would look great without it. But why birthday cakes? Why not cathedral windows gelatin or something else that is eye catching and colourful? There are actually many noteworthy truths about these birthday cakes

First let us know what are considered as birthday cakes. Generally, these are any sort of sponge cake that may come in different sizes, flavours, and creative icings. As long as at least some candles can be placed on top of it, the birthday cake would automatically be recognisable among visitors.

Some research studies report that birthday cakes were made in the ancient times when the Greeks would present Artemis, the Goddess of Moon, round-shaped cakes that symbolised the face of the moon.

Later on, in the Middle Ages in Germany, birthday cakes started to be more commonplace and became iconic of commemoration of the birth of a person, and of a child in particular.

Among Americans and Europeans, the birthday cake candles stand for a person’s age, thus, there are stick candles for kids and the number candles for the older ones. Candles are kids’ favourites because they anxiously count the years added up to their age, and with that, have a sense of growing more into maturity and freedom. Pushing towards teenage years, birthday candles no longer have the literal meaning of birthday years, but serve more as embellishment and a way to make a juvenile wishes come true. The candle light symbolizes wisdom and direction in the present and future years ahead.

On the other hand, chroniclers point us to the possible truth that candles blown off a birthday cake makes possible for the smoke to be blown in the wind and to reach the skies and arrive at the gods, taking all our silent desires and prayers along with it .

The next time you blow your birthday cake candle, you now hold the knowledge that will make you revere the tradition better.
