If you write a blog, sometimes it’s difficult to constantly come up with topics to write about. You want to keep it fresh and timely and interesting enough for readers to continue visiting your blog. Here are a few suggestions.
Keep up with the latest issues. People don’t want old information. If they think your blog is out of date they will look elsewhere for their news.
If you’re going to write a blog make sure you make time to research whatever you’re writing about. It helps to check out relevant RSS feeds and talk to authorities in the field you’re writing about. Readers will visit your blog if you can tell them something new or impactful.
Know what you’re talking about. Readers will respect you and read your blog if you show your expertise. Provide quotes, statistics and other information to ensure your credibility.
People love to know special tips and trade secrets from insiders. They will come to view you and your blog as the place to go for information on a given subject if you provide them with information they can’t get elsewhere. If you know your stuff, readers will respect you and treat you like an authority.
Be brief. Online readers generally aren’t looking for a lengthy article. They want the information in short bites they can digest quickly and easily.
The best way to keep your blog a readable length is to tighten up your copy. Go over it and eliminate any extra words or phrases. Strike out any filler or fluff that doesn’t really add to the content.
Keep it light. Use a conversational tone and people will connect with you. It will put them at ease and make them feel they know you.
A large vocabulary is great for SATs but not so great for a blog. Using a lot of big words will alienate people and make them feel like reading your blog is a tiresome. They will think you are pretentious. Use humor and personal anecdotes whenever possible. They bring the subject matter to life and connect you with the reader.
