Sound Strategies For Successful Self Realization And Personal Development
By Steve Brian
As people, we are capable of some really great things. People may be responsible for wars, but we’re also responsible for the massive amounts of charity that take place around the globe. If you’re seeking to get in touch with the good side of humanity, some personal development tips might just help you out.
Step outside yourself and look through the eyes of others. Many times we cannot hear what those around us think of us or say about us in our absence. However, taking the time to be a third person in the room during your interactions with others can give you insight into who your personality is portraying. Be fair in your assessment and ask yourself, “What do I think about this person?”
There are many ways to learn life’s lessons. One way to learn a lot while at the same time helping others is by listening to other people. We all need a listening ear, and too many people do not take the time to do this. Listen to others, and you will see a marked difference in your life.
Be aware of what brings out the worst in you and alter it. Perhaps you only smoke when you are on break at work. Perhaps your next door neighbor always inspires you to procrastinate first thing in the morning by sharing gossip over the fence. You can’t eliminate the breaks or the neighbor, of course, but you can change how you respond to each.
If you have a seasonal depression disorder make sure you keep your home well lighted. Keep all your curtains and blinds open. The light regulates the body’s reproduction of serotonin and you may be deprived if suffering from seasonal depression. You can also try using a tanning bed for this disorder.
If you have a lot of negative self talk, internally telling yourself that you are stupid, ugly or unsuccessful, a great way to counter act these thoughts is grounding yourself in the here and now. While trying to help yourself with personal development, asking yourself simple questions such as “Where am I?” and “What am I doing?” will help the negative self talk go away.
Summon the willpower to take some time off and just enjoy life more often. Taking a break every now and then is fine. Life is a gift to be enjoyed – it’s not all about work and material things. If you lead a busy life, it is important to know when to slow down. A little time for rest and relaxation gives your mind and body some time to recharge.
Reach for goals that may be just out of your grasp. You will never grow unless you challenge the limits of your comfort zone. You do not want to try and attain impossible goals, but you do want to attempt new things. This is the only way that you will change and grow as a person.
Be sure to take a deep breath when you are feeling stressed out, panicked or worried. Just take a deep breath inhale for four counts and exhale for eight counts. Doing this will help you to consciously take charge of your feelings and enable you to be still, just for a moment. That can give you the strength to regroup and re-attack the problem.
Personal development means branching out. Why not enhance your knowledge base? After you’ve identified your personal weaknesses, find self-help media that will enable you to combat them! There is a book for virtually any type of self-made obstacles. Audio books are an excellent alternative to those who are seeing impaired. Either way you go, self-help books make a lot of sense.
In summary, there is no better way to build a better life than to start within oneself. It’s what you feel inside that counts. Hopefully you will come away with some new ideas on how to progress your own personal development and how to contribute positively to those around you.
