Book Review – Crush It! By Gary Vaynerchuk

By Matt Javit

Social Media expert Gary Vaynerchuk began his writing career with his New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller, Crush It! Why Now is the Time to Cash in on Your Passion. Crush It is the first of a multi-book deal for Gary Vee (his widely known internet name) and has helped propel him to becoming a business/ brand consultant for Fortune 500 companies across the US.

If you have a passion, hobby, interest, or something that you are just damn good it – you need to read this book. Gary’s passion was and still is entrepreneurism. His passion for his father’s wine business, using the Internet as his platform, grew the business from $3 million a year to over $70 million a year in a few short years. Crush It focuses on how Gary took this “case study” and used it to build his own brand – Gary Vaynerchuk.

Reading this book will get you pumped up and get your mind churning with ideas that you can take to the web. Fishing, drawing, shopping, your network marketing opportunity, ice sculptures – whatever your interest, you can do it! Gary Vee explains the ways he went about building his brand that eventually took him to CNN, Fox, Good Morning America, and Conan O’Brien.

Gary is obviously, and admittedly, blessed with the ability to talk his tail off. But he also teaches that you can build your passion from more than just videos. You can go the route of blogs or audio as well. Building great content is key. But then following it with marketing is the most critical aspect. Utilizing free social media to create a following of your content will bring in the money, Gary points out.

Gary Vaynerchuk “got it” before most and Crush It will help the reader understand why they too should be in the game of cashing in on their passion. Gary is transparent in the idea that it will not happen over night. His success was not built that way nor will yours. Building an online business around your passion, like any business, takes time, effort, and sweat – lots of it. But you can do it.
