Prime Considerations When Going For Logo Design And How To Assess Its Efficacy
By Adelaide Khan | December 29, 2009
It is imperative for every firm, be it a multinational conglomerate or a start-up, to create a unique logo design which would represent its essence. The logo must have a powerful visual appeal for the customer and must spark off instant recollection of the brand, and a professional logo designer can immensely help in this respect.
As the company’s brand image will be determined by the logo design, it is recommended to verify if the logo designer is qualified and competent enough for the job. He should have prior experience of designing challenging logos and must have immense potential for creativity. He should also be competent in handling deadlines and include your original recommendations in the logo.
There are some key features that describe a good logo. There must be an appropriate mix of images, colour and letters in the logo to make it visually attractive yet classy. The logo must be unique to help the firm stand out from the host of other brands operating in the market.
The logo design must try to emphasize the main business of the company meaningfully and subtly, so as to give the customers knowledge of what your company is dealing in. In addition, it must be apt enough to survive for many years and even longer so that you don’t feel the need to replace it with a new one.
It is normally not easy to gauge the efficacy of logo design. The real influence of a logo could take months to trickle down to increasing sales as the new logo will take some time to develop a connect with the customers.
But this does not mean that you can never know if the new logo will find favour with customers. You can depend on market research to figure out how the consumers will respond to the new logo design. The test market concept’s application can enable you to do this in an effective manner.
A test market is a very small segment of the whole market, where you can roll out the new logo design, and then conduct a study to understand how people are reacting to it. You would not have to wait for long for consumers to start connecting with your new logo if you publicize and promote it aggressively in the test market.
Thereafter you can study and assess what perceptible effects your experiment has had on the revenues of your products in the test market and on the overall opinion about your firm in that specific area. If this experiment is found to have a positive change, you can be sure that your logo design exercise was fruitful.
