Business Trip Survival Guide

By Allison Scarborough

Whether you may be a first-time business trip taker or a seasoned traveler for business purposes, it helps to have these tips handy in order to maximize your business trip in every possible way.

Starting Your Trip Out Right

Planning is essential in ensuring a successful, comfortable and trouble-free business trip, though the same applies if you’re traveling for personal purposes. Nobody likes having to go through the third degree with customs and arrive at a business meeting feeling pressured and stressed out. A travel wallet can help you better organize your documents and have them kept in one place.

All confirmation numbers for the flight and e-ticket receipts should be securely placed in your travel wallet. Never leave home without your plane tickets and confirmation documents – it can be costly and stressful to fill out a lost ticket application.

Keep your laptop safe and bring it on the trip. When packing your bags, don’t put your laptop in there. The most ideal type of baggage to bring with you is simple hand luggage that can be permitted in the cabin, containing essential things like extra shirts, socks and underwear in case you need to change.

Preparing Your Electronic Devices For The Trip

When bringing electronic devices, make sure to do your homework first. Mains plug configurations can vary per country, so be prepared with the help of a universal adapter. Telephone sockets also have varied configurations. Since not all destinations have Wi-Fi, be prepared for the eventuality of connecting to the Internet with a phone socket. That’s why a Wi-Fi adapter may also be necessary.

Another option for going online would be via your cell phone, but you will need to research the well-known ISPs in the area you are traveling to, and you may need to sign up beforehand. Have a portable printer handy as well, and make sure you bring paper and extra cartridges. You can use this to print out important documents from your hotel room. Also have an Ethernet cable handy. Depending on the hotel, some hotel rooms may not have one handy. And last, but not the least, have a few USB sticks for document storage.
