In planning to purchase a first house, most individuals are governed by their emotions. These individuals usually fail to see the glaring defects of the house that they assume is truly meant for them. So, after moving in and after experiencing first hand the consequences of these glaring issues, they become frustrated and angry at their decision.

Therefore, to save yourself from the heartaches of wrong decisions, here are several things to consider before you buy the house you have set your heart on.

1. Consider the neighborhood

At your initial visit, a neighborhood may appear safe and welcoming. if you plan to buy a house set in a particular neighborhood, try dropping by the place at certain times of the day to get an overall impression of the place and to get to know the community before committing to a final decision.

2. Consider the community

A lot of us are seeking a community that could help shape our children’s characters. A community that cares and look out for each other is a gem.

3. Consider the structural defects

What you are seeing may already be your dream house. Nonetheless, it is still prudent to inspect the house for signs of defects, plumbing issues, or the presence of animals considered as pests.

4. Consider the space

If see yourself building a family in the future, you have to select a dwelling that has enough rooms for all family members.

5. Consider the price

Your banking institution or loan agent will determine the total amount they will be ready to loan you based on your income, your credit track record, your employment history, among others. You must get a pre-approval on your mortgage so that you know if you can afford to pay for the house you’ve set your heart on.
