How an Inflatable Bounce House Will Let You Quit Your Job

By Robin Buckley | February 25, 2010

If you have ever dreamed of quitting your job, but didn’t know how to juggle starting a business but still needing the income of the job, a bounce house just might be the answer for you. You can start your business with little investment of time and money and keep your job until you are in profit.

Bounce house rentals usually take place on the weekends, and if you should rent yours during the week, you can always set it up the night before. Once you start to see profits, it will be easy to quit your job.

Owning a bounce house rental business is pretty simple. You deliver the inflatable to the customer, set it up, and when the rental time is over, you deflate it and pack it up.

You will need space in your vehicle for transporting the inflatables. If you do not have cargo space then a small trailer would work. Your bounce house will come with a blower to inflate it but you may want to invest in a generator in case you rent out to a place with no electricity. You will also need some long hoses if your inflatable has a water slide.

You will find that these commercial inflatables can weight anywhere from 100 to 400 pounds. It will be a good idea to have an assistant. A high school kid would fit the bill. They can also work as a monitor when needed.

Some inflatables will come in different sizes and degrees of durability. A bounce house that is used at the typical birthday party can cost you between $1,500.00 and $2,000.00. If you are looking to go after more of an amusement, attraction type model, then you will pay around $4,000.00.

Either way, you want to insure that your units are made of the commercial grade PVC. Anything less, will not last as long, and could become a problem for the safety of your clients. Commercial grade PVC also offers more bounce for a better customer experience.

Insurance will be necessary and compliance with any state regulations and taxes are a must. You do not want to risk having such a profitable business shut down because you did not pay attention to your requirements. Every state is different, so do your due diligence

There are so many ways to market your inflatable bounce house business. The obvious is having a website, or an ad in the local newspaper or yellow pages. But word of month is always one of your best forms of advertising.

Starting the word of mouth advertising could be as simple as offering your bounce house to a friend or acquaintance who has a child with a birthday party coming up. By offering it at a greatly reduced price or even for free, you will be able to ask for referrals. Also you will want to make sure you place your contact information clearly around the bounce house, exposing your business to others who could use your service too.

If you have a bounce house that is not in use, think about donating it for a day at a local charity event or at a little league event. This could bring you a lot of business if you use your inflatable as a bouncing billboard.

Make sure that your contact information is clearly visible at every event were you rent. You never know when someone could be driving by and see your bounce house. This person could be your next customer.
