By Brian B. Barker

The net is home to an infinite amount of information. It is common for people to not think of the potential risks involved in making their personal data public. You should know though, that when a person performs a background check on you, everything you’ve written about yourself could be used against you. The internet has made finding information about people much simpler than it ever was before.

Anything and everything typed on your public profile, on any web site, can now show up on a search engine for a query about you. If you yourself were attempting to find out about your best friend, public data could be easily assessed, but any deeper than that would be very difficult. Doing the work yourself can be hugely beneficial, in that you can be specifc and direct with the way you search.

However, there are a number of public and free government websites that will provide you with information concerning an individual if they have committed a crime. Online data is usually available via governmental websites, specific to certain districts. You can do this by browsing the government sectors in which the conviction occurred.

However, if you were not able to find out the individuals full name or last address, then there are specialist agencies available who can help. As with all professionals, they will require a fee. Collect as much as you can before hand though, for the more data you have to start with, the better the search will be conducted. The more details you know concerning the individual, the better.

The way you carry out your search is dependant on what you are trying to find. It’s likely that you want to authenticate an interviewees credentials? First of all, to authenticate whats on their application, you check their education in addition to places of experience.

When you decide on a website that performs these checks, make sure beforehand that they are credible. A lot of the time a search can grow to be quite pricy. Many of these websites carry out a check but do not gaurantee a refund if there are no results, read the fine print first.
