How To Choose The Top Affiliate Programs For The Best Returns

By Chris Brand

Whether you’re looking for a little extra income from your blog or a full-time career, affiliate programs can be the answer for you. Some people will tell you it’s very hard to make money from these programs and others will tell you there’s nothing to it. The truth is, the top affiliate programs can be very rewarding.

There are many types of affiliate programs, but they are all based on the same idea. Someone has a product or service to sell and they give you a commission for selling it. You need to analyze a few key points about these programs before you make your decision.

Not every affiliate program offers the same commission percentage as the other. Some products, like books, offer very low commissions on a product that is already inexpensive. You have to sell a lot of books to make an income from selling them and only the online stores that sell large volumes of books succeed. There may be another reason for you to sell books online, though.

For example, you may join an affiliate program that sells expensive equipment that is made for enthusiasts. Just about every product niche offers an affiliate program these days. Let’s say you are a windsurfing enthusiast and you want to sell sailboards and other accessories online. As an expert in the field, you will offer books related to windsurfing and perhaps water sports in general. While the commissions on the books may not be high, they help establish your credentials.

Rather than join an affiliate program that has been lucrative for others in the past, try to find one that offers a great new product or service. These can be a real gold mine. Get in early and put all your energy into that product or service. Get your search engine ranking high before you have to fight through the crowd. Once you’re at the top, it’s much easier to stay there.

Another thing to think about is subscription services. With most products, you have to continually make sales to make profits. With subscription services, you can often make money every month or every year when someone who originally signed up for the service through your website renews their subscription. While your initial commission may not be high, over time your subscription commissions may give you a handsome passive income.

Multi Level Marketing programs (MLM) are another form of affiliate program that is worth exploring. You get commissions two ways when you join these programs. You get commissions on sales and you get commissions from those who sign up for the programs beneath you. The products should be good ones, because ultimately it’s the products that you will be selling and that will entice others to sign up under you.

While it’s true that you can join most affiliate programs for free, it’s also true that you will probably be spending some money promoting the products. The top affiliate programs are the ones that offer you the best chance of getting the highest return for your efforts. Choose carefully and then go for it!
