All babies are beautiful. But babies with exquisite smiles stand out. Unfortunately, a lot of children have dental caries by age 2. This is primarily because of parental neglect on their children’s dental care. Parents think that a visit to the dentist can be delayed for when the child already has her permanent teeth.

Dental caries have been the leading cause of malnutrition in many countries. By nature, a child with tooth decay will find meal times more tough than a child with good teeth and gums. During the little age of two to four is when a child develops a healthy mental attitude towards eating, and this is the time when she needs good teeth and gums to make meal times pleasant.

A quick visit to the dentist and parents will understand why dental caries happen to a lot of tots. At this age, toddlers are transitioning from bottle feeding to having their milk from a training cup. Many tots hold the transition, because by nature change is challenging, and because they use bottle feeding as a means to lull themselves to sleep. The problem with this is that sweet milk is stacked away in the mouth of the child for long hours, accelerating up tooth decay.

The first off thing a sound dentist will suggest is to changeover to the training cup straightaway. The sooner the kid is weaned from bottle feeding, the better. If the baby is having challenges, especially as she utilises bottle feeding to sleep, then parents can supplant milk with water.

A sound dentist will also go for fluoride liquid to coat the surface of the teeth, especially for teeth with big crevices. These are usually places where tooth decay-causing bacteria will enjoy to tunnel, especially when the toddler starts eating and is just getting used to brushing after meals.

The idea of visiting a dentist can be horrible to a child. But most children with whom parents in advance talk to about dentists being friends will normally react with enthusiasm. It will also be helpful to present pictures of dentists just a week before the visit so the youngster can feel stimulated. And on the first visit, it will be sound to have a tour of a dental clinic and to meet and greet the dentist, without any operation done yet, just so the child can become comfy about sitting on a dental chair and opening her mouth.
