How To Make Arrangements For A Funeral Service
By Anne Fox
Death is one of the harsh realities of our existence that we are least prepared for. Honouring the dead is a very old practice that has been continuously changing to fit into the modern times. Traditionally, the funeral service took place at the church with singing of solemn hymns and a speech. But, as a larger number of people are willing to go with personalized services, the practice has undergone change over the years.
Organizing a funeral could be a very painful and hard job, especially right after the death of a relative or a friend. The fundamental myths regarding funeral services include that this is a legal necessity, which it definitely isn’t.
Secondly, a lot of people have a wrong belief that a service can be held only in a church. It is noteworthy that though traditionally such services were held in a church, with the trend of personalizing, a lot of funeral services are being conducted within the premises of the departed.
Thirdly, such services do not mandate the presence of any clergy or priest or even a casket as a compulsory requirement.
But, for any such personal funeral service, you need to take into account the dead person while making the arrangements. The music to be played at the service should be soft as well as from the personal choices of the deceased. You have the option of playing audio records or engaging a live music band.
Some families opt for display of the personal items of the dead person in a collage, for the gathering to reflect on his or her life. Address is extremely important in all funeral services including the personal ones. It could be a poem, a song or a personal speech that reflects upon the dead person.
Lastly, it is preferable to give the guests gathered at the service some kind of a memento that will make them remember the deceased forever.
