In the field of Engineering, the School of Engineering of the HKUST has been over-whelming all along. Altogether with six departments offering Bachelor, Master and Doctor Programs. Not only SENG does well in education, but also in research aspect.
A Facebook Fan Page is created by SENG recently. It contains over 1,200 fans, who are students and alumni mainly. A detailed draft of promotional work, the photography competition is presented in this proposal. All the work would be done on the fan page of SENG.
Fans share their view and give opinion to SENG. A page with high interaction would enhance its ability to drive traffic. Any actions of fans would be visible on the news feed of their fans. So friends would be interested on what their friends done on the page. It is believed that a photography contest would be an interactive alternative for SENG.
In the fan page of SENG, limited news and updates are found. Students are relying on e-mails and LMES to receive information from their departments. What’s more, student societies do not see the potential if they do cross-promotion with the help of SENG fan page, as there are over 1,000 fan who are mainly students.
Existing news are just like the announcements in e-mails, which cannot utilize the most important element of Web 2.0 – interaction. Formal news can be posted in line with interactive events and updates.
Fan Page is not only useful in driving students’ belongings to SENG and creating a platform for students and staff to interact, but also to increase people’s attention and understanding to Engineering, and thus arousing potential students’(no matter local secondary students and overseas exchange students) interest in studying in Engineering field in HKUST.
In the long-run, we believe that the fan page is able to deliver the message of importance of Engineering to the public. Not only academic and research-related, Engineering is all around us.
