Making Your Online Business Go Viral

By Eloy Owen

Virus – What immediately enters your mind? Did it make you think about medical issues – being sick, etc? Or, more predictably if you are an internet marketer, do you think of content that is talked about, popular and attention grabbing? This kind of content is something that gets created, lots of people notice it, and then for whatever reason they share it with everyone. No additional marketing is required by the creator. What you have here is… online word of mouth advertising. It’s the ultimate marketing machine and dream of all IM marketers. This type of traffic volume will give most marketers severe bandwidth overage charges. Ok – here are some proven tips you can use to increase your chances of this happening in your life.

First though, after you get people’s attention – work hard to maintain it. You want people to keep returning to you. Should you create viral content, then make Part 2 for it. You’ll find this is extremely helpful to keep newer readers returning to your site. If you slack off at all, then you risk losing it all and things will return to ‘yesterday.’ So, this will be your great opportunity to acquire repeat visitors and hopefully buyers. So becoming viral with something only means all the hard work lies ahead of you.

Make your offline work easy for people to share too. Don’t assume that you have to limit your marketing efforts to the internet because that is where you make sales and promote your work. Offline viral content can be just as contagious. Don’t make it hard for people to print, burn copies and share your work with those that don’t have access to the internet on a regular basis. Do it this way and you could get tons of new customers.

Actively participate in online communities. In your particular market, join forums and be active, and you can participate and comment on blogs, too. Become more active in the larger dialogue in your market. If you’re a positive contributor, then it will get noticed and people will pay attention to you. You really should have no trouble at all finding forums to join or blogs to comment on, and most of them will allow a link back to your site. As long as your comments and contributions are relevant you will build your reputation, popularity and chance of having your work go viral.

So many IM marketers try to produce something that will “go viral” for a very long time. It’s never possible to know beforehand if something will assume a viral nature, or not. So the best approach is to be interesting in your content and offer the best quality, and then you just promote it the best you can. If you can manage to accomplish that much, you’ll receive so much in return from your efforts.
