It is very common when you are just talking with people about what you do, and the first thing out of their mouth is “What is Network Marketing?”

To put it simply, network marketing is really just one particular way that larger companies have chosen to go about to get the word out about their product. They chose to rely on local word of mouth information to spread the word about their products and services.

Similar to other industries, like the insurance, and financial planning large corporations decided to recruit a group of independent sales representatives to physically do the marketing on their behalf, and in turn, these business builders get a share of the profits for their work.

Up until recent years, network marketing products and services have been pushed through a warm market approach. The basic idea here is that by doing this, one can go ahead and take advantage of the already proven trust factor with those people.

This is most commonly known as word of mouth advertising and has traditionally been extremely popular and successful in the last 50 years or so in this industry.

Now there are tons of techniques to go about this, home parties, one-on-one meetings, buying and cold calling leads, tables at community expos, and in more recent years, utilizing the internet to about connecting with others all over the world to extend your network.

What really is the best way to sell products and services is when you are able to find a particular group of people with a problem and actually help them with your own business or product as a means to do that.

Instead of convincing others, why not go ahead and just get in front of those who are already eager buyers.

It is far more powerful to find out what people need and want and help them get it themselves.

Particularly in recent years, people have absolutely become bombarded with distractions and advertisements, and one of the quickest ways to cut through the clutter is to serve their needs and be viewed as a welcome guest in their world.

Ok, so what is new school network marketing really all about?

It is all about taking needs based approach to the industry, and using the internet to connect with others to do so and generate your own leads in the process.

Now, there are tons of strategies and techniques to do so, creating targeted content in the form of articles, blogs, videos, or podcasts, networking on social media sites like Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter, or utilizing paid internet advertising in the form of pay per click marketing, ezine advertising, or banner advertisements.
