Getting Rid of The Cunning Rat The Environmentally Responsible Way
By Jude Martins
A sly rat is one that is hard to catch, and one that can form an entire kingdom of rats right under your nose. A rat is a house pest that can ruin a lot of things. Among its favourite nibbles are your precious possessions: clothes, the wirings of your home theatre system, or that newly imported Persian carpet. Pest exterminators use tried-and-tested methods to deal with a sly rat.
One of these ways is creating compost. This is basically dug out in an area where you want to lead and do away with the pesky rodent. You can dump piles into your compost with left-over food and other biodegradable materials that rats usually take. Make sure to keep the compost far enough for the rat to find its way back to the front door.
The limitation of the compost is that rats can still get out of it, leading you to use other methods which are less effective and most of the time unsanitary. These include setting traps, or releasing cats to chase the rats. What do you with your compost then?
This is where professional pest control companies step in. Periodically or just when you see that the compost is populated, you can hire the service of an expert rat exterminator to do the job. In keeping with your objective of being environment-friendly, many rat control companies are certified to use environmentally safe chemicals in pest extermination. This also goes for mosquito, cockroach, and other pests.
There is also the bucket style. Strategically place buckets around your compost. The buckets present bait which a rat coming out of the compost will be attracted to. When the rat goes into the bucket, it will have a hard time to come out. You will then dispose of the rat.
