When it comes to disseminating info to a great number of people, print is one of the most popular media. The current form of the printing services industry is a result of years of change and evolution in printing styles and techniques. Today it can address almost any demand of the customers connected with printing & its ancillary requirements.

With the invention of the first printing press by Gutenberg in the–00′s, bulk printing services in the form of relief printing evolved into a full fledged industrial service. A slight elevation of the printed matter from the background, like it is in a rubber stamp, is a key feature of relief printing. This type of printing has however gone almost out of use nowadays, though not completely dead.

Technology has always been a driving force behind changes in printing techniques that have been embraced down the years. Modern printing techniques have developed to a great extent, and each method has its own role and function. In fact, most clients now feel overwhelmed with the printing alternatives available in the industry.

Of all printing techniques in the market today, offset printing tops the list in popularity. In this method, limited ink is used to print the matter, which is first put on metal plates and is then transmitted onto paper. This method is most suitable for bulk printing, as it is both quicker and cheaper than other methods in the market.

Other printing methods that have evolved with progress in technology are electrostatic printing, which resembles photocopying, and thermal printing, which uses a procedure of selective heating of layered thermal paper.

However, digital printing is the most recent technological advancement in this field. As is clear from its name it uses a computer to create an image, which is then analysed and if found to be faultless, printed onto paper. This method is faultless and quick, but it is best suited only for a restricted number of prints. As this technique allows each print to be customized it has resulted in some novel uses like computer form printing, where documents like invoices and receipts are printed on a standard layout but with differing contents for each client.

Another important evolution in printing has taken place with the arrival of the internet. Most printing firms have their own websites that permit customers to conveniently place orders and check out designs and specimens, without them having to go all the way to the firm’s premises for this purpose.

Printing has always taken quantum leaps whenever there has been a technological innovation. The heartening news is that this trend is not going to slow down any time soon and you will keep witnessing advancements slash the costs and improve the process.
