By David Moran

If you are looking for a job, then you must first improve a skill for resume writing first because resume is possibly the most essential part in the process of job search. It gives a quick impression of your educational background, skills and work experience if any. However, CV or Curriculum Vitae and resume are considered similar almost all across the globe except Canada and US.

It is the primary item that the potential employer look into. In most cases, a resume is short and crisp. On screening through the CV, the interviewer would have formed a good idea of you as a person. The resume therefore, explains the potential that you as an individual may have for a specific job making you the perfect candidate. This could be followed by an interview and maybe an employment.

CV writing can be categorized into two categories. These are chronological and functional. Chronological format is straight forward and extremely functional. It is easy to understand and ideal for people who have stuck to a routine and reasonable career path. The events and the experiences are written in a chronological way with the most recent job being at the top.

Functional CV’s are written when shifting jobs, referring the different functional abilities you may have gathered over the years. These resumes are usually custom made to go well with the specific job requirement only. They are very focused on the skills needed for a specific position.

A combination CV presents a perfect balance of functional and a chronological format. These usually have a functional list of job skills at the beginning followed by chronologically organized list of employers. This format however, is not very popular since it has a strong tendency of repetition.

The skill of resume writing is much impacted with the advent of internet also. Nowadays, resumes are mostly written online and the employers also like to have it in an electronic format. Internet has completely changed the way the resumes are written, managed and reviewed.

Online resumes generally are written in MS word document. This is easy to use and known by almost all- the employer as well as the job seeker. However, many employers may ask for resumes formatted in PDF, HTML or may be even simple ASCII.

Resumes are available to most employers nowadays through the a number of search engines. This is where the keywords are more effective. This will help to suit perfectly with the job profile that you are searching.

CV writing includes a set of exact keywords that the employer may be looking out for. This makes the scanning much easier. CV with precise keyword is always preferred and usually gets what the applicant is searching.

Video and Audio resumes are getting popular recently with increase in telephonic interviews. The employers don’t only get the necessary details but get to observe the applicant as well. These are mainly helpful when hiring from long distance over the telephone. This certainly confirms that there will not be any type of deception.
