Most of the countries around the world have been badly hit by the economic crisis. Imports, exports and spending have been sharply decreasing. This has left companies no choice but to find news ways to increase their sales and distribution channels.

Most companies around the world have one similarity: their products and services are not sold in Latin America and the Caribbean. This is really a lost opportunity as the region represents 42 countries with a combined population of 609 million people.

The obstacles for doing business:

*Language challenges: Latin America and the Caribbean is a very diverse region with Spanish, Portuguese, French, Dutch, Creole and many more languages.

*Difficulty in finding information online: Many friends of mine always complain about how hard it is to find reliable information about doing business in Latin America online in English.

*Difficulty in finding Trade Leads. The definition of Trade leads are basically selling and buying offers which are often published online on leading B2B Trade portals such as Alibaba, Tradekey, EC21 etc.

How to start doing business with Latin America and the Caribbean?

For the first time in many years, I finally found a B2B Trade Portal that is up to my standards as a serious businessman. MercaTrade.com just launched in September 2009 and it already boost thousands of trade leads.

Several things I like about this website:

*The website is in English and Spanish. The Portuguese version will be added in 2010 to accommodate the huge Brazilian market

*The website is simply designed and easy to navigate. It does not have advertising flashing everywhere which I hate in other websites.

*Their premium memberships are reasonably priced and packed with features. For example, they have a PowerTrader Virtual showrooms that allows me to basically have a mini website on their portal where I can post unlimited offers with pictures, write the latest news about my company, show my tradeshow attendance, let users subscribe to my product updates and much more. The price for this is just $500.00USD/year which is a bargain considering that I would pay over $2500.00USD/year for other Asian Trade Portals.

*Free Services are also available.

*After contacting them, they stated that they would be adding additional features in 2010 at no additional cost to premium memberships.

*Over 200 articles about doing business in the region such as country profiles, trade agreements, business etiquette etc.

*Other services such as translation are also available.
