Ways To Keep You Children Entertained Physically And Mentally Over The Summer Vacation

By Guest

Summer is here and the kids are on a break from school for three months. There are many things you can do to make the most of your summer and planning regular activities with and for your children is one of them. It does not require a great deal of money but it does require some organizing to be able to have an idea for everyday so your kids don’t end up in front of the television for hours or are constantly complaining that they are bored. If you plan out on a calendar an activity for every day, it will give the children something to be excited about and will give them a way to be stimulated both physically and mentally during their break from school. Whether it is having an arts and craft day when it is raining outside using art supplies and foam board or by visiting the local zoo, this article will offer a variety of ideas to keep you and your children engaged this summer.

One of the things that so many educators complain about is how much the students need to catch up once they return to school again. One of the best methods to keep them stimulated and involved mentally is to make a chart that involves a small amount of reading and math facts for them to do each day. You can get whatever books they want to read at your local library. The more they are interested in the book, the more likely they will be excited to do a few minutes of reading daily. You can buy a grade level appropriate workbook of math problems and have your son or daughter complete a page each day to keep their math facts sharp throughout the summer. It is best to do these activities at the same time each day to form a pattern that they know is expected of them.

Another good suggestion is to have the kids do some type of exercise daily. The trick to this is to make it appear as if it is playing then they won’t feel like they are being forced to exercise. Head to the local pool for swimming lessons or go on a bike ride around the neighborhood are both great ideas. Have them invite some friends over and plan a scavenger hunt that will require them to run all around and have to do various tasks to get to the end. Go on a nature hike in the woods is another fun tip and have them get leaf impressions on the hike to keep in a special book.

If you have a family summer trip planned, educated the children for where they are headed and make it educational also. Teach them about some interesting things about the destination and have them keep a vacation journal. Going to new places is one of the best learning experiences for both children and adults.

Cooking is another fun thing to do in the summer. Try making homemade ice cream or popsicles for a refreshing summer treat. Cooking is wonderful because math is used in addition to creativity.

Connor Sullivan usually buys his children’s art supplies online. His wife purchased foam board online for her daughter to use at a summer camp.
