How To Prepare For Your First Baby

By Guest

Having your first child can be a confusing time. While you are excited and happy, you may also be terrified and worried about parenthood. Babies don’t come with instruction manuals like many first time parents wish. It is trial and error . Lots of people will try and scare you of parenthood by making you worry about everything, like the dangers of pushing your kid in a folding cart at the store. Well while the dangers of a wheeled cart linger in your mind, just keep in mind that as long as you baby is alive, healthy, and happy that you are doing well.

Babies are good at letting you know when you are doing something that they do not like. If you are not taking care of them the right way, you can be pretty sure that they will sound an alarm .However, here are a few minor tips to ease the learning process.

First, do not freak out when your baby does not fit the description of other people children. Like snowflakes, no two babies are the same; each will have its own habits. Talk to a doctor if you think something is out of the ordinary and they will let you know. Some babies do not like to eat as often or will not sleep as much as normal. Your baby may develop differently than other children you have seen. Just because your baby may be learning things at a slower pace does not automatically mean they are not smart. Just keep a close relationship with your doctor to make sure you do not miss a warning sign.

Second, the breast feeding versus formula debate is one that many mothers are concerned about. The best thing to do here is to make that decision amoung yourselves or involve your doctor. Some will tell you that formula raised children are not as academically successful as the latter, but that is debatable. If you have a preference, just stick with it. Do not let other parents tell you should not do it that way. It is your choice because it is your body and your child. There will always be parents who think they can tell you what to do, but they really can’t.

Lastly, do not smother your child. Being an over protective parent will only harm your child. One of the best ways for children to learn is through experience. Bumping their head won’t kill them, just teach them. Naturally it is very smart to worry about things like hot surfaces and choke hazards, but there is a line you have to draw. The Marie Antoinette of parenting would tell you to “let them eat dirt.” A little harmless dirt will only make them stronger. If you are too careful you will only make them super susceptible to germs.

Connor R. Sullivan recently purchased a folding cart on the internet to help his aging mother cart her groceries. His wife ordered a wheeled cart online for her daughter to use when traveling abroad this summer.
