The prosperity and popularity of successful companies is obviously the result of continuous training. Without the benefit of sales training, a business would not be able to achieve the all-important goal of synergy, and would also suffer in the areas of credence and market exposure. As a business owner, you have to be always aware of the importance of regular sales training, and subject every man and woman under your employ to these training sessions, may they be compulsory or elective. Apart from promoting synergy and improving your company’s profitability, sales training programs, when conducted properly, also benefit your business by helping your company keep abreast of the latest marketing strategies, serve as a team building exercise of sorts for your different teams and team members and also keep your entire sales team motivated to perform every day. Ensuring that you are working with an effective sales training program can serve as your company’s “fountain of youth”, revitalizing it and refreshing it with new perspective, insight and of course, prosperity.
There are two main categories of sales training: self-study oriented sales training, which allows the trainees to learn on their own and trainer-oriented sales training, taught by a sales “coach”. The former sales training type would use various mediums in teaching the different selling techniques and strategies to employees, including tradebooks, textbooks and multimedia. As for trainer-oriented training, trainees would be asked to participate in different classroom activities, not the least labwork or practical application of the aforementioned sales techniques. It is our opinion that your company could gain more from trainer-oriented sales training programs as opposed to self-study oriented sales training programs, because they allow for actual participation of your employees (i.e. they are able to do labwork and clarify by asking questions), can make them both more effective AND efficient in their sales and add more colors to their palette of professional skills.
Trainer-oriented sales training programs have the advantage of offering trainees the chance to engage in role play situations, thus allowing attendants to quickly polish their skills. Trainees are encouraged to be transparent and honest, to ask questions, and if they do not receive feedback from their trainers, they have every reason to demand it. And when your entire staff is effective and efficient in their sales campaigns, your company’s overall performance improves, and you find yourself one step closer to the elusive goal of synergy – and with that said, we would go out on a limb and recommend once more the latter type of training – trainer-oriented sales training programs.
