Ways To Keep Your Children Safe While Enjoying The Summertime Activities That May Cause Injuries

By Guest

Summer is the time when the kids are off from school and also the time to be able to participate in certain activities that you may not have time or the weather to enjoy during the rest of the year. Unfortunately, the combination of both of these things with the kids being out of school and also doing various activities can result in many little accidents and injuries to the most devastating one of death too. ER’s and Children’s hospitals see a large rise in patients over the summer for various problems such as cuts and broken bones from falls off of bikes or scooters, drowning in swimming pools or other types of water and even horrible sunburns. This article will look into how to protect your children from getting injured this summer and ways to encourage your kids to be safer in fun methods such as wearing a fun helmet cover or helmet covers for their wheeled activities or other helpful suggestions.

One thing that Americans have gotten a lot better about with themselves in addition to their children is using sunscreen or suntan lotion. Physicians specializing in skin have been reporting for years the importance of protecting yourself from UVA and UVB rays to avoid getting skin cancer later on. A wonderful method to protect kids is to have them wear sunscreen clothing outdoors or at the pool then you don’t have to always worry about putting on lotion as often.

Another way to be safe is to teach your children how to swim and about water safety. They have lessons for infants now to learn how to roll over and float if they fall into water and this is a smart step. Also, have kids of every age take swim lessons every year and if they are not strong swimmers, they should wear a personal floatation device. The most important thing however is to keep an eye on yoru kids the whole time you are near water and do not rely on lifeguards to watch your kids. Each summer children drown at public pools with lifeguards on watch. There is no better protection than knowing where your son or daughter is at all times.

Visits to the Emergency room rise greatly during the summer months from children playing on anything that has wheels like bikes, scooters, skateboards and roller blades. The reason so many children are injured is because they do not wear the correct equipment. A good rule of thumb to teach your child is if the toy has wheels they must put on a helmet. Skateboarding and rollerblading also should require knee pads and wrist and elbow pads to prevent broken bones if they fall.

Educating your kids about safety pertaining to the sun, water and the use of equipment with wheels are all parts of your job as a parent or a caregiver to children. The more regularly these rules are demanded, the more automatic the behaviors will be for children to be safe. And most importantly, watch your children.

Connor R. Sullivan’s wife recently purchased a specialty helmet cover online for their daughter’s birthday party. His wife had a large selection of cute helmet covers to choose from online.
