The Italian Ice Craze

By Justin Davis

Would you love to taste something new? Have you tried Italian Ice? You may not be familiar with this, this is not ice cream, this is just ice. If you have not tasted it, then now is the perfect time to do so.

This is a frozen treat which is made from concentrated syrup flavoring or purees of different fruits. Some areas call this water ice. Though there are different recipes for this dessert, all of these are most likely similar, they only differ in their flavors.

This dessert is one of the simplest desserts to make. You will prepare the following: water, sugar and your desired flavoring or fruit juice and of course a freezer. When it comes to flavor, you can choose from cherry, coconut, champagne and many more. You can experiment.

Remember this ratio – 4:2:2. This means that you mix 4 cups of clean water and 2 cups of sugar and 2 cups of juice or any flavor that you like. You can just adjust this ratio according to your preferences. More sugar is added usually for pineapple, lemon and orange.

The procedure is very simple. First, you have to mix sugar and water and boil them in a saucepan or a pot. Then, slowly stir the mixture continuously until the sugar crystals are completely dissolved. Turn off the heat source and let it cool down for about 10 minutes. When it has already cooled down, add the desired flavoring then stir to make sure it is well mixed. Once done, pour down into a container put into the freezer for around 4 hours or until it freezes. During this period, stir it occasionally until it becomes completely frozen and ready for a scoop. Your chilly sweet dessert is now ready to serve.

To make this dessert more exciting, you could add toppings or garnishes of slices of fresh fruits such as lemons or strawberries.

Italian ice can be served as a light dessert that you and your family can enjoy during a summer afternoon, it can also be served between meals to cleanse the palate. With this said, we can now understand that this dessert is very versatile since it can serve many functions.

The coolest way to relax is to have an Italian ice. Try different Italian ice recipes everyday. Make them yourself for personal consumption or get an Italian ice business rolling. It is a promising prospect.
