Time Management For Work At Home Business Operators

As a network marketer, I found very early in my career that the biggest barrier to success that marketers ave working on their opportunities, is that, the more you need to do, or want to do, the less time you have to work with. It sounds simplistic, but the problem is complex and not easily negated.

As my business is home based, there are other issues – the family can be a distraction, and when people see you at home, they assume that as you are not “at work” they can get your attention. I found a simple method to cope.

Your inititial task is to figure out where you spend your time. Usually you have 3 categories, Family, Work, and Everything Else

Now you need to build a timetable with all of your activities catered for. Include as much detail as you can so that you know it will work in a balanced way, with no emphasis on any part over any other.

Write your schedule down or enter in your computerised diary. If it is in your head, it is dead. You cannot see your schedule, cannot Read to Remind, and you have no trigger for refocus. Try to plan your day the night before – take a few minutes to write down the key activities you want to work on for the next day. Make sure there is time for the kids, some exercise, and (Most important!) you better half

Here is the Key to Maximum Productivity. Schedule your work in 2 three hour blocks, with each hour broken into 50 minutes of WORK and 10 minutes of NON-WORK. Separate the three hour blocks with at least 30 minutes of exercise, relaxation, refuelling, or meditation.

Be very specific about your activity. At least 80% of your work should be on Income Producing Activity (IPA) such as (for network marketers) lead generation or follow up. The rest of your work should be mastering new skills.

Use a timer. Research conducted by Kinsey shows that after 50 minutes of concentration, your productivity suffers. So set a timer for 50 minutes and focus absolutely on work for that full 50 minutes. When the timer stops, immediately reset for 10 minutes, and RELAX. Go for a short walk to get fresh air, drink some water, meditate for a minute or two. Once your relaxing 10 minutes is over, reset the timer for another 50 minutes of absolute focus on your work. And so on until your three hour block is up…

Part time works can try for sessions consisting of 50/10/50 minute blocks – at least one will be okay.

Don’t fall off your chair when you realise how much you can do by managing your time in an efficient manner. Your annual income could become your monthly income
